Kate Middleton Reveals Why She and Prince William Left London and Moved to Windsor With Their Children

Princess Kate Middleton gave insight into her family’s decision to leave London and move to Windsor.

“We are in Windsor at the moment,” Kate, 43, said during a conversation with soldiers from the Irish Guards at a St. Patrick’s Day parade on Monday, March 17, People reports.

“We were in London but moved there for more green space,” she added. “It’s close enough to London, not too far away.”

Kate, Prince William, and their three children — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — lived in London’s Kensington Palace until the summer of 2022, when they relocated to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Home Park, about an hour’s drive away.

“The whole family [is] extremely excited to be moving to Windsor, not just because it will bring them closer to [Queen Elizabeth II] but it’s a perfect happy medium that brings them closer to London than if they chose to settle full time in Berkshire or Amner Hall,” a source told Us Weekly at the time.

The move coincided with George, Charlotte, and Louis’ transition to a new school, Lambrook School in Berkshire.

Meanwhile, Kensington Palace remains the couple’s administrative headquarters. It is also used as a tourist attraction and has exhibitions, including Dress Codes, a royal fashion exhibition that is being displayed until November 30, 2025.

Similarly, Buckingham Palace is also predominantly used for administrative purposes and official events such as state banquets and garden parties.
