Euphoria Makeup Artist Donni Davy Reveals She Was ‘Panicking’ That Her Acne Would Cost Her the Job on the Show

Euphoria makeup artist Donni Davy is opening up about her acne struggles.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, March 26, Davy shared a mirror selfie taken seven years ago before her interview for the hit HBO series. In a second snapshot, the artist shows a close-up look at the breakouts around her mouth and chin.

“In the first pic I am literally about to drive to my interview for Euphoria,” she writes in the caption. “I was 28 years old, working as a makeup artist in the film&TV industry. I got sent an amazing pilot episode script to read for a new show about teenagers.”

Davy continues, “I was panicking about my skin nonstop back then because it felt so gnarly to be a makeup artist w/ this on my face, and at that point it had been like this for years. Shout out to anyone who’s going through acne in their twenties! 🫂”

In a text bubble written over the photo of her acne, Davy reveals, “I was so pleased in that first pic because I managed to cover up my acne for my job interview, and I felt somewhat decent in my skin.”

“My fear was that my acne would stop me from getting hired on makeup jobs that I had to interview in person for,” the makeup artist continues. “That’s how horrible I felt about my face back then.”

“And look at you, one of the most revolutionary artists who brought an entire universe of euphoria glitz and glam alive,” one wrote. “I still frequently reference your looks from euphoria for inspiration in my day to day makeup ❤️”

Another shared, “You are so talented, and this is such a beautiful reminder that being human doesn’t disqualify us from greatness. 😍❤️”

Though she’s been in the industry for over a decade, Davy received widespread acclaim for her work on Euphoria, which premiered in 2019. The teen drama series, directed by Sam Levinson and starring Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, sparked a massive trend wave thanks to Davy’s glittery, ethereal designs.

“I was really thrilled that people loved the makeup and that it added to the storyline for them,” Davy told PEOPLE in 2022. “I think that’s why people responded to the makeup because it wasn’t just seeing cool looks on models coming down a runway, it was seeing these looks that really did say something about the characters.”

Season 2 of the show aired in 2022 (the same year Davy released her own makeup brand Half Magic), and after a years-long hiatus, production kicked off for season 3 in February 2025. Fans can expect new episodes in late 2025 or 2026.
