Who Is Jon Scheyer’s Wife? All About Marcelle Provencial and Her Relationship with Duke’s Head Coach

Jon Scheyer and his wife, Marcelle Provenical, are diehard Duke Blue Devils fans — and that’s not just because he’s the men’s basketball head coach.

The couple met while attending Duke in 2010, and Scheyer eventually popped the question in 2015. Two years later, they wed in a private Chicago ceremony — not far from Scheyer’s hometown of Northbrook, Ill.

Scheyer and Provenical’s family grew in 2018 with the birth of their first child, daughter Noa Marie. The following year, they welcomed their son Jett James and another son named James Russell, in 2022 — roughly a year after Scheyer was named the 20th head coach of Duke men’s basketball.

Under his leadership, Duke secured a No. 1 seed in the 2025 NCAA tournament and will face the Arizona Wildcats in the first round of the Sweet 16 on March 27.

Throughout his coaching career, Provencial has been spotted behind the bench at Duke games when she’s not working as a registered nurse in Durham, N.C.

So who is Jon Scheyer’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Marcelle Provencial and her relationship with Duke’s head basketball coach.

She’s from Florida

Born on June 5, 1987, Provencial was raised in Florida before moving to North Carolina for graduate school. She told WRAL in December 2023 that she didn’t grow up in a sports family.

“The whole sports world was new to me,” Provencial told the outlet.

She’s a nurse

Provencial graduated from Duke with a master’s in nursing in 2016 and now works as a family nurse practitioner.

“I’ve always been interested in health care and clinical research,” she told WRAL.

She and Scheyer wed in 2017

Scheyer and Provencial met in 2010, but they didn’t make their relationship Instagram official until 2014, when the now-head coach posted a photo of the couple after his first Duke game as the team’s special assistant.

A year later, he proposed to Provencial, who was speechless when the relationship milestone happened.

“She said YES!!! We are engaged! Thanks to all the love from our family and friends,” Scheyer wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of them after the special moment.

The couple married on May 6, 2017, and celebrated Provencial’s 30th birthday a month later.

“Happy Birthday to my WIFE! So lucky to be by your side!” Scheyer wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for being the most unselfish, fun, caring, loving wife! 30 looks great on you!!! Love you!”

She and Scheyer have three kids

The couple are proud parents to three children. They welcomed their first child and only daughter, Noa Marie, on Jan. 29, 2018, and Scheyer shares a birthday with their second child, son Jett James, who arrived on Aug. 24, 2019.

Scheyer and Provencial later welcomed their third child, son James Russell, on May 18, 2022.

The Duke head coach has previously shared on Instagram that he’s “amazed every day by the love, care [and] attention” Provencial shows their kids.

Provencial also considers herself a “mom of the [Duke] basketball team,” telling WRAL, “I just want to wrap them [up] and keep them safe. There’s so much that they are exposed to. They’re young and amazing guys.”

She says watching Scheyer coach at Duke is a “dream come true”

Provencial couldn’t be prouder of her husband, who dedicated 12 years of his life to the Duke men’s basketball program before being named head coach in June 2021.

Scheyer played at Duke for four years, leading the Blue Devils to a national championship as a senior in 2010. Over the next three years, he ventured into professional basketball, playing in the NBA Summer League and overseas in Europe.

In 2013, Scheyer officially joined the coaching staff at his alma mater.

“I just want to thank my family. My wife, Marcelle, we’ve been on an incredible journey together. I can’t wait for this next chapter of our lives,” Scheyer said during his first press conference as head coach.

While speaking to WRAL, Provencial told the outlet that she hopes Scheyer coaches at Duke “forever,” similar to his predecessor Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski, who served as head coach for 42 seasons.

“Seeing Jon in his element and coaching at the best place in the world, in my opinion, has been a dream come true,” she said.

They created the Scheyer Family Kid Captain Program

During the 2022–23 season, Scheyer and Provencial launched the Scheyer Kid Captain program. The partnership with Duke Children’s Hospital invites patients and their families to spend a game day with the team.

Kids of the program attend the player’s game day shootaround and get to play on Duke’s famous Cameron court before being honored during a first-half media timeout.

Provencial told the Associated Press that it’s “inspiring” to witness the “strength” of the patients and their families.

“I definitely get teary-eyed and choked up,” she said about joining the kids at center court. “I’m such an emotional [person], especially when it comes to kids. What these parents and families are going through, it’s just unthinkable.”

Provencial continued, “I feel so honored to lead this program. I wish we could do it a million times over.”
