The Golden Bachelorette contestant Guy Gansert has broken his silence after a past restraining order filed by his ex-wife, Heidi Gansert, has come to light.
“This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse and was ultimately resolved when she voluntarily dismissed her request for a protective order,” Guy, 66, wrote in a Thursday, October 10, Instagram statement. “Together, we crafted a resolution that was agreeable to both parties.”
“My ex-wife and I recently asked the court to seal her application for the protective order as we had hoped to maintain privacy for our family,” he continued. “But, I know that being in the public eye comes responsibility.”
Guy was accused of domestic violence in October 2021 court documents obtained by The U.S. Sun earlier this week. The filing reportedly alleges that the emergency room doctor “physically tried to threaten” Heidi, who claimed that Guy approached her after she left the gym with a friend, allegedly leaving an item “under the rear driver’s tire.”

It’s time to meet the 24 Golden Bachelorette contestants looking for love with Joan Vassos — and Bachelor Nation will recognize one familiar face. Bachelor season 28 winner Kelsey Anderson’s dad, Mark, is one of the 61-year-old lead’s suitors, according to the cast announcement from ABC on Tuesday, August 13. (Kelsey’s mom, Denise, died in […]
Guy removed the item, Heidi claimed, before reportedly verbally disparaging her. She further alleged that Guy “pointed his finger like a gun” and pretended to shoot in her direction. Heidi said the 2021 incident was the first time he allegedly threatened her, but also alleged that Guy would send “stacks of text messages” that ended in angry responses. The Sun reports that Heidi opted to dismiss the filing.
Guy is one of Joan Vassos’ contestants on the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelorette, receiving a one-on-one date in the Wednesday, October 9, episode. He was cast on the show following their divorce.
“My ex-wife and I were married for 34 years and in that time we had four children, who we raised together and deeply love,” Guy wrote on Thursday. “They are my greatest accomplishment. My divorce was extremely difficult for me and led me to a very low point in my life.”
According to Guy, he ended up acting “in a way that doesn’t represent who [he] is.”
“The past few years have caused me to conduct a deep personal evaluation, and I will always continue to work to improve myself,” Guy concluded. “I am so appreciative of The Golden Bachelorette and Bachelor Nation, as well as my family, who have been exceptionally supportive during the most difficult times of my life. I am eternally grateful for them.”

While Hollywood may appear to be all glitz and glam on the surface, the industry has seen its fair share of scandals through the years. The New York Times and the New Yorker first published investigative pieces in 2017 that accused disgruntled movie producer Harvey Weinstein of decades of sexual assault and harassment. Soon after, Weinstein stood trial and was […]
Guy has also been “grateful” for his entire tenure on The Golden Bachelorette.
“The premiere of the Golden Bachelorette was nothing short of amazing! I was able to ‘watch’ with family and friends,” he wrote via Instagram on September 22. “Of course, I also had to watch myself get emotional on national television. But, I promise that it was from happiness. I have to thank the entire Golden Bachelorette Team for giving me the opportunity to have a Transformational Journey. Let the journey continue.”
Us Weekly has reached out to ABC for comment. A source also tells Us that production learned from Guy during the show’s vetting process that an application for a Temporary Protective Order was filed against him from his ex-wife after a disagreement but confirmed that it was never granted as Heidi voluntarily dismissed the application shortly after the filing. Therefore, he was cleared to continue through the casting process.
The Golden Bachelorette airs on ABC Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
