“I never was physically hurt and I never felt unsafe,” she shared with People. “It was more just walking on eggshells and feeling anxious about, when is his next blow-up going to be?”
She added, “And I didn’t even realize this really until I was out of the house for a while, but just how my nervous system just feels normal again. It was always kind of anxious of making sure that he doesn’t get upset. Monitoring someone’s behavior is not healthy.”
But despite her public relationship and breakup, Ally has been able to find gratitude for her experiences.
“I’m weirdly grateful because it made me face the facts,” she said, later adding, “It was just a lot of wake-up calls that needed to happen, but it wasn’t easy in the moment.”
E! News has reached out to James’ rep for comment on her interview but has not heard back.
Following his arrest, James spoke out and shared that he was focusing on his personal improvement.
“I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories in December. “I am taking time to focus on my sobriety, personal growth, and being present for loved ones.”
The 33-year-old added, “Navigating challenging moments is not easy, but I am determined to learn, grow, and move forward with the incredible support system around me.”
Since that December update, James celebrated in January that he was 48 days sober.
