Carrie and Aidan Are ‘Complicated’ in ‘And Just Like That’ Season 3 Trailer

Though last season left them broken up, Carrie and Aidan seem to be heading toward a reunion in the new And Just Like That season 3 trailer.

“There’s nothing like summer in New York City with its hot days and even hotter nights,” Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) says wistfully in the video, which dropped on Tuesday, April 15. “Something new and unexpected always awaits.”

Then, in typical Sex and the City fashion, a group of rats scatters throughout Carrie’s backyard. In addition to her rodent problem, Carrie is contemplating writing fiction and struggling with dating.

When Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) says she “caught a vibe” with Carrie and a neighbor, Carrie feels torn. “It’s complicated with Aidan, but I’m trying to figure it out,” she says.

Meanwhile, Charlotte gets excited over Aidan (John Corbett) sending blank postcards from Virginia, but Carrie saves her giddiness for when he actually arrives in New York. It seems like these two might pick up right where they left off.

And Just Like That season 3 premieres Thursday, May 29, on Max.

When viewers last saw Carrie and co., she had just broken up with Aidan after rekindling their romance. He wanted to be with his sons in Virginia and said they would reunite after his kids were grown, which was about five years away.

After the split, Carrie and Seema (Sarita Choudhury) hit the beach in Greece. Showrunner Michael Patrick King previously hinted that Carrie and Seema’s trip overseas offered a glimpse at the next chapter of the Sex and the City spinoff.

“I knew it was going to end before anything that Carrie and Seema would be sitting on a beach in Greece looking out at the horizon, that it would not end with Carrie and Aidan,” he said on AJLT’s companion podcast in August 2023. “There’s a little, tiny thread of what we’re thinking at the end, which is Seema says, ‘Well we ran at love, and where did that get us?’ And she goes, ‘I’m waiting five months and you’re waiting five years.’ And Carrie goes, ‘Well, I may get some time off for good behavior.’ You would only say that if you’re already going, ‘It’s not gonna be five years.’ She’s very cute, but she does go on to say, ‘There will be others.’”

Miranda, meanwhile, made amends with both her ex-husband, Steve (David Eigenberg), and recent ex Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez). However, the latter won’t be returning for another season.

“They created such an amazing character — such a controversial character, but such an amazing character,” Nixon told Variety in May 2024. “I think they felt, and [showrunner] Michael Patrick [King] felt, that that character had run its course. They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed.”

Also absent from season 3 will be Miranda’s pal Nya because actress Karen Pittman had scheduling conflicts. “Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible,” Max announced in a March 2024 statement. “Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of season 3 of And Just Like That… Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors.”

There will be plenty of new faces in And Just Like That season 3. Rosie O’Donnell joined the cast as a character called Mary while Patti LuPone, Kristen Schaal and Cheri Oteri are all set to guest star.
