A husband is mourning his late wife after she was killed by a van fleeing the police in England.
Suzanne Cherry, 62, was struck by a van at Aston Wood golf course in the village of Shenstone, Staffordshire, at 10:25 a.m. local time on April 11. She died days later in the hospital on April 15, Staffordshire Police said in a press release.
Cherry’s husband, who has not been named, recalled the “helpless horror” of losing his wife in a statement included in the press release. He said, “While enjoying what should have been the safest of one of Suzanne’s many activities, I watched in helpless horror as the life of my beautiful wife and our future together was snatched away in an instant.”
On April 11, the police reported that a gray Nissan van hit Cherry at the golf course while being pursued by the West Midlands Police. The driver and two passengers fled the scene on foot after the collision as police continued their search for the suspects, according to authorities.
Cherry suffered serious injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital.
Police have since made six arrests in connection with this incident. The suspects are all men, and their names have not been disclosed at this time, The Times reported.
Cherry’s husband said in tribute to his “beautiful wife” and the mother of their three children that she “had an amazing and infectious zest for life which touched everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.”
“She was unselfish, always ready to encourage with love and support those around her to achieve more than they themselves thought possible,” he said. “Suzanne leaves a legacy and an unfillable void in the lives of her mother Maureen, her three adult children, two step-children and countless others from her work, her sporting activities and social circle.”
Cherry’s husband added that his late wife “will be painfully missed by her entire family and friends.”
