Woman Pregnant With Twins is Run Over While Changing a Tire — Now the Father of Her Babies is Charged With Attempted Murder

An expectant mother with two babies on the way had quite the scare after being hit by another vehicle while changing the tire on her car.

That same woman then had another scare when she learned that the man driving the vehicle that hit her was the father of her babies, Justin Ahkuoi.

Now she is recovering — and the father is in police custody.

The incident in question occurred on April 8 just before noon, according the a criminal complaint filed in Honolulu District Court and obtained by PEOPLE.

Detective Dean Terakawa of the Honolulu Police Department writes in the complaint that he was called to the scene of a “possible domestic argument” and arrived to find that “a pregnant female was hit by a vehicle at this location and was awake and breathing.”

The victim spoke with Officer Reggee Bailey of the HPD at the scene, telling him she was four-months pregnant with twins and that Ahkuoi is the father of the children, according to the complaint.

She then recounted that earlier that day she was changing a car tire when Ahkuoi allegedly “drove up to her fast and sideswiped her on the left side of her body with his car,” the complaint says.

This action caused the victim to spin and fall to the ground, she told Bailey.

Ahkuoi then got out of his vehicle, the victim told Bailey, and allegedly said “f*** you and that he just killed their two babies.”

An eyewitness at the scene gave a similar version of events, according to the compliant, at which point the HPD moved forward with charging and arresting Ahkuoi.

A local judge signed off on the criminal complaint back on April 11, but it was not until 10 days later that Ahkuoi was arrested and charged with a single count of second-degree attempted murder.

He was booked into the Oahu Community Correctional Center on April 22, and his bail is set at $150,000.

Ahkoui has not yet appeared in court or entered a plea, and there is no lawyer listed for him in court records.

The victim, and her unborn twins, are expected to make a full recovery.
