Mike White hasn’t revealed the setting and theme of The White Lotus season 4 to fans or cast members like Natasha Rothwell — but that hasn’t stopped her from theorizing potential ideas.
“Africa the continent, [and] particularly Morocco,” Rothwell, 44, exclusively suggested to Us Weekly on Thursday, April 24, at Jim Thompson’s soirée in honor of The White Lotus, which was attended by several cast members. “I feel like Egypt [or] South Africa.”
White’s hit HBO anthology series is set at the fictional White Lotus resort in various locales, previously including Hawaii, Italy and Thailand. While a fourth season has already been renewed, it’s not presently known where the next group of star-studded travelers will visit.
“Oh, I have no idea,” Rothwell, who played Belinda on both season 1 and season 3, told Us, teasing that only White, 54, “knows” the correct answer.
However, if it were up to Rothwell, the show would be set during a high school reunion.
“I have a special affinity to high school and my time during high school,” Rothwell said, teasing that Belinda’s journey might not be finished after all. “I don’t think she’s free at all. She’s got blood money, so I think that there’s unfinished business, but I also feel her stories are complete.”
She added, “I think it’s kind of a fork in the road. It could go either way and the master of fate [White] says right there.”
At the end of season 3, Belinda and son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) negotiated a $5 million settlement with Greg (Jon Gries). Afterward, she told Pornchai (Dom Hetrakul) that she could no longer open their own spa because her circumstances had changed. The finale plot twist not only surprised viewers, but Rothwell herself.

The White Lotus could be switching things up for season 4. After three seasons of sun-kissed murder, creator Mike White teased that the fourth season of the HBO hit drama might drop the temperature by swapping sunny climes for snow. “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the ‘crashing […]
“I FaceTimed [Mike] immediately,” she told Us on Thursday. “I didn’t take one week to read each script. I sat down and read all the scripts and immediately FaceTimed him and he picked up. He was in Thailand scouting for season 3, and I was like, ‘You did it, motherf***er, you did it! I’m so excited!’”
Rothwell has also been elated to see the entire anthology be received well among fans.
“I went to the TED conference in Vancouver because I’m a huge neuroscience nerd. I arrived at the conference the day after the finale, and I walked through the conference … as an attendee,” Rothwell recalled. “People were coming up nonstop [saying], ‘I can’t believe you’re here. The show’s amazing. I watched it with my mom,’ and they had appointment viewing, which was so beautiful. I think that has been really special just to hear the community [rally] around the show.”
Rothwell stepped out on Thursday, alongside White and costars such as Tayme Thapthimthong and Hetrakul, 49, at Thompson’s bash to honor the show’s legacy.
“I’m so grateful to have been invited and to participate,” Rothwell gushed to Us. “This is not usually my scene, but just seeing these guys again is worth it to me and it’s wonderful to do it and not [be] in sweats.”
The White Lotus is streaming on Max.
