3 Must-Watch Movies Coming to Netflix in May 2025

Netflix is the most popular streamer in the world, and a good reason for that is because it keeps on adding new originals and acquired movies from other studios.

May is no exception as the streamer is adding films that will satisfy all tastes. In the mood for a low-key charmer about a group of ornery grandmothers cooking? Stream Nonnas.

Or how about a throwback slasher based on the popular ‘90s teen books, Fear Street? Then make a date with the Prom Queen. Finally, Netflix in May is streaming The Wild Robot, a fantastic animated movie based on a beloved children’s book that isn’t just for kids.

‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ (2025) – May 23

In 2021, Netflix released not one, not two, but three Fear Street movies one week after another: 1994 with Maya Hawke, 1978 with Sadie Sink and 1666 with Kiana Madeira. The interconnected movies were a big hit for the streamer, but why did it take four years for Netflix to produce a follow-up?

We may never know the answer, but we’re still glad Prom Queen is set to terrorize subscribers around the world. The 1980s-set slasher is about the intense competition between “It girl” high school prom queen candidates as they campaign aggressively to get the most votes to be crowned onstage. When an unpopular candidate joins the race, the popular girls begin to mysteriously disappear one by one.

Last weekend, several recent, high-profile movies became available to stream, like Companion on Max, Wolf Man on Peacock and The Room Next Door on Netflix. It was an embarrassment of riches, and that streak will continue this weekend. Watch With Us has selected four new movies that are new to streaming and worth your time. […]

Netflix is being cagey about revealing much about Prom Queen, but the few images and teaser suggest some Prom Night-style kills mixed with bad dresses and even worse hairdos. If the movie is half the fun of Fear Street: 1994, then audiences are in for a bloody good time.

‘Nonnas’ (2025) – May 9

Joe Scaravella (Vince Vaughn) just lost his mother, and he doesn’t know what to do with himself. Looking for a purpose, he decides to open an Italian restaurant in Staten Island. It’s no ordinary restaurant, however, as many of the cooks are retired grandmothers who can barely stand each other. Surrounded by these no-nonsense nonnas, will Joe find meaning in life again?

No one will confuse Nonnas for Oppenheimer — the story is shamelessly sentimental and the Italian accents are as thick as the marinara sauce the nonnas put on their pasta. But the movie looks comforting, and it’s a hoot to watch Susan Sarandon, Talia Shire and Brenda Vaccaro play women of a certain age who can’t help hurling insults at one another.

‘The Wild Robot’ (2024) – May 24

This 2024 adventure was previously streaming on Peacock and will soon be available to Netflix subscribers in May. When robot Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) crash-lands on a seemingly deserted island, it sends a signal to be retrieved by its corporate masters. While waiting to be picked up, Roz befriends various animals it finds on the island, including a sly fox named Fink (Pedro Pascal) and Brightbill (Kit Connor), an orphaned gosling Roz shelters from potential predators. As Roz becomes more at home with its new animal friends, it must soon make a fateful choice: leave the island or stay and be a “wild robot.”

From the looks of things, April may be a very slow month for movie lovers on Netflix. It’s possible that the streamer may add more titles to next month’s lineup as we get closer to April. But for now, the options are slim. The good news is that among the films coming to Netflix in […]

The Wild Robot is a fantastic animated movie that harkens back to old-school flicks like The Iron Giant and The Secret of NIMH. The film has a great voice cast that also includes Catherine O’Hara and Bill Nighy as two older animals who give Roz valuable advice. The Wild Robot was nominated for three Oscars this year and is already a classic in the making.
