And while the couple—who share kids James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, 2—also did not attend this year, Blake previously expressed love for the annual occasion.

As for other stars you’d hoped to see all dressed in their first Monday of May best? There are quite a few people in Hollywood who have regularly chosen to sit out of the festivity altogether. Meanwhile, big celebrities like Meryl Streep and Ryan Gosling have never attended the ball. Gosling and his longtime partner Eva Mendes, for their part, prefer to keep a low profile, but Streep nearly made her debut in 2020, as she was announced as a co-chair. However, the COVID-19 pandemic kept a party for the Costume Institute’s “About Time” theme that year to move forward.
