The ladies of MomTok aren’t shy when it comes to discussing finances.

After season 1 showed these ladies stepping into their power, many as breadwinners for their families through content creation, season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives featured fighting within MomTok about money and business.

The subject comes up when Jessi Ngatikaura brings back the infamous truth box to help facilitate conversations that can clear the air. Someone then submitted a question for her, asking, “Are you worried Demi was willing to take a bigger contract even if it meant you would be dropped from the show?”

She laughs, looking up at Demi, who is also laughing, and says, “We can’t run away from this.”

In a confessional, Jessi explains that “Demi and I did have a falling out a couple of months ago. It really rocked our friendship. We had a little disagreement about money.”

Other cast members share the story as they understand it in their own confessionals, with Mayci saying, “Demi basically was willing for Jessi to be off the show so she could kind of get paid more.”

Taylor says, “Jessi comes out and says, ‘Actually, I’m not gonna walk, so you can walk to me, but I’m not.’ ”

“For me, I just said in my head, ‘I don’t want money to come between all of us,’ and I know I was on another way of thinking,” Jessi explains.

Taylor then reveals that, “Demi got on a whole other call with MomTok.” She continues, “Demi’s like, ‘Yeah, f— Jessi at this point. Let’s push her to the side.’ She was talking mad s—.”

Answering the truth box question in the scene, Jessi tells the group, “I also know I’m in a situation that’s different than everyone.”

Mikayla jokes, “I think if I was a millionaire, I wouldn’t care either.”

Explaining her side of it in a confessional, Demi says, “Jessi sits on an empire of this hair business and does really well financially, so it felt a little selfish to me.”

“The emotions were high, and I understood that she felt that way,” Jessi says to the girls in response. “I also don’t think, and I could be wrong, that it was her saying, ‘Specifically kick off Jessi and just give me a higher paycheck.’ ”

In a confessional, Taylor doubles down on how the move gave her “a bad taste in my mouth, given that’s her “best friend.” At dinner the next night, Whitney brings up the situation again and asks for Demi to explain more about what happened there.

Jessi began, “It was a call with our lawyers and managers. I literally got on and I heard Bret and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, I don’t want you speaking for me.’ ”

“We had had a mutual understanding that we were going to come in fighting for everything as a united front, and we felt like she dogged us and went around us like, ‘I’m going to get whatever I want,’ ” Demi added. “So we were like, at that point, ‘Okay, f— it, we’re going to do the same thing.'”

Taylor says they “deserve to fight for more,” with Whitney chiming in, “Yeah, but not to [fight to] kick people out.” This leads to Taylor sharing that she’s been told by multiple people that Demi says she “deserves bigger brand deals” than her costars.

Demi denies saying it, but Jessi chimes in to say she’s heard the same. Whitney agrees. “It’s not a shock that I was a fan favorite,” Demi replies, adding, “I feel like I’m an asset. I should fight for more.”

Taylor dismisses that idea in a confessional, saying, “Demi wasn’t even originally going to be cast for the show. Do you really think you’re the star? Nah, I don’t agree with that.”

“In what world are you putting yourself on this pedestal? What makes you that person? Yes, MomTok is a business, but it’s a lot more than that. It’s a sisterhood. It’s a support system. However, I think Demi has [let] the money side and greed go to her head so that comes first and everyone can fend for themselves, and that, to me, is not a genuine friendship at all.”

At the dinner, Taylor tells her, “No offense, but you would have never had this opportunity without me.”

“No, I understand that,” Demi says. Taylor goes on to explain that she made the opportunity possible and has been “the most vulnerable” of all the women, to the detriment of her mental health.

“I think some people [who] aren’t as open and aren’t as vulnerable sharing their actual s— that’s going on behind closed doors [don’t] deserve to be paid more, because they’re not being vulnerable. They’re only being surfaced based at a dinner table ‘creating drama.’ I’m the one that’s actually struggling because I’m open to the f—ing world. If anyone has the right to get paid the most, it’s me, and I’ve never asked for that, ever.”

Demi concedes, “Where I went wrong was being willing to knock her off, but that came from a place of us being in a bad place.”

While Demi says she doesn’t want anyone out of MomTok, she starts singing a different tune after the CMA fallout with Taylor, during which she says her social media behavior is a “liability.”

Later, Layla is on the set of a brand shoot with Taylor and tells her that while Demi does have some valid points, she’s taking it too far. She also reveals that Demi asked her how much they were making for the shoot they’re on.

“I didn’t text her back because I feel like we’ve all learned our lesson with Demi, when it comes to money, you don’t bring it up because she doesn’t handle it really well.”

Demi and Taylor find themselves at odds at the “Saints and Sinners” party, after which Taylor says in a confessional that Demi’s lost sight of the point of MomTok.

“MomTok is supposed to be sisterhood and support and genuine friendships. However, I think Demi has let the money side and greed go to her head. Yes, MomTok is a business, but its much more than that. I’m not scared of her, but she’s a scary girl, if that makes sense. And we all need to be aware.”
