Justin Anderson had a bit of a beauty mishap with Katy Perry.
The celebrity hairstylist opened up about accidentally messing up Perry’s hair when she wanted to go blonde while chatting with Kristin Cavallari on an episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast on Tuesday, May 20.
“You did her hair,” Cavallari, 38, said as they talked about the singer, 40.
Anderson quickly corrected the actress, telling her, “I burnt her hair off.”

“Katy was trying to go blonde so she had gone to somebody else and they couldn’t quite get it there,” he explained, noting that Katy’s iconic black dyed hair is “virtually impossible” to lift to a platinum blonde.
Anderson continued, “When she came to me, they had been bleaching it over and over, and her hair was crisp. So I told her, ‘Katy, your hair will break off if we do anything to it.’” Perry, being the free spirit she is, decided to go forward with her dreams of being a blonde.
The hairstylist used “the most gentle bleach” he could, but as he worked his way up to her roots, “all the foils in the back just started falling out” due to breakage.
“It was so bad,” Anderson admitted, sharing that it was the reason behind her blonde pixie cut in 2017.
Anderson ended his story by calling it the “worst experience” for a hairdresser to deal with.
Perry rocked her platinum tresses for quite some time. In 2019, she slowly grew out her mane to a bob and kept the trendy length until 2021, when she went back to her signature brunette strands and long hair extensions.
Currently, she’s slaying with black hair on her Lifetimes Tour.
