The Emmy winner’s voiceover begins the trailer with, “I’ve spent years distancing myself from my mother,” as she goes through old items of her mother’s. Following a clip of Jayne sharing, “I use my pin-up type publicity to get my foot in the door,” Mariska alludes to Jayne’s sex symbol legacy as she explains, “Her career made me want to do it differently. But I want to understand her now.”
The trailer ends with the overarching theme of the documentary, where Mariska states, “Reclaiming my family story—that is what this is about for me, because she’s a part of me. I want to know her as Jayne, my mom Jayne.”
Mariska originally announced the documentary on April 8, where she wrote in a press release, “This movie is a labor of love and longing. It’s a search for the mother I never knew, an integration of a part of myself I’d never owned, and a reclaiming of my mother’s story and my own truth.”
