Adam Levine and Kate Hudson’s Friendship Explained During ‘The Voice’ Battle Rounds

Adam Levine and Kate Hudson’s friendship goes all the way back to the classroom.

“We’ve known each other since high school,” Levine, 45, shared on the Monday, March 10, episode of The Voice.

Hudson, 45, replied, “I actually might have been at one of your first gigs.”

Although the actress attended Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica, California, and Levine went to Brentwood School nearby in West Los Angeles, the pair have remained in touch through the years.

Trae Patton/NBC The Voice is on the hunt for the best undiscovered singers in the country. Season 27 of NBC’s hit reality competition show returned in January and coaches Kelsea Ballerini, Michael Bublé, John Legend and Adam Levine didn’t waste any time building their teams in the blind auditions. Despite a five-year hiatus from the […]

When Levine needed a mentor to help guide his team for season 27 of The Voice, he knew just who to call.

“Kate Hudson is a household name and has been for years, and now she’s venturing into this new career, which is awesome,” he said in a confessional interview. “It’s actually kind of annoying because she’s good at everything.”

Perhaps the cherry on top of Hudson’s involvement is that she’s been a viewer of NBC’s long-running singing competition show for many years.

“I’ve been a fan of the show, watched the show,” she explained. “So much of my life has been in acting and performing, but music was always my love. To be here connecting through music is really special.”

While Hudson first found success on the big screen with hits like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and the Oscar-winning film Almost Famous, she dipped her toes into music when she released her debut album Glorious in May 2024. The body of work ended up on the Billboard charts.

When asked about Levine’s success in Maroon 5, Hudson said she wasn’t surprised he turned into a rockstar.

“His first band, they were always playing somewhere,” she told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Tuesday, March 4. “It’s amazing to see his success and then to be here doing this with him, it feels very familiar, yet surreal at the same time.”

Hudson got to work quickly on Monday’s episode of The Voice when she mentored Levine’s contestants for the Battle Rounds, including Darius J and Britton Moore.

After acknowledging how “competitive” Levine is, Hudson joked that she wasn’t sure if she had what it takes to be a full-on coach.

“I can’t wait to hear this,” she shared before realizing Levine has to pick only one contestant from each Battle Round to advance. “I’m so glad I don’t have to make that decision.”

The Voice airs on NBC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. Stream old episodes anytime on Peacock.
