Warning: Spoilers ahead for Alien: Earth!

It was Xenomorph-mania in the latest episode of Alien: Earth.

“Emergence,” the penultimate installment of the sci-fi series’ first season, premiered Sept. 16 on FX and Hulu. The episode showed Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin) continuing to lose control over his Neverland Research Island, as alien wreaked havoc and Wendy (Sydney Chandler) attempted an escape — by any means necessary.

The suspenseful chapter also contained classic elements from the Alien movies, like a facehugger, a gruesome chestburster scene and violent Xenomorph fights.

So why is Wendy trying to flee the island, and what happened to Arthur (David Rysdahl) after a facehugger attached itself to him in the previous episode? Here’s Alien: Earth episode 7 explained.

Why are Wendy, Hermit and Nibs trying to escape the island?

Wendy’s brother, Hermit (Alex Lawther), has been trying to convince her to escape from Neverland Research Island, and she finally listens.

In the latest episode, Wendy visits the research lab and finds Boy Kavalier and Kirsch (Timothy Olyphant) with Tootles’ (Kit Young) dead body.

Realizing she’s in danger, she hatches a plan with Hermit to leave the island. Before meeting his facehugger fate in the previous episode, Arthur turned off the Lost Boys’ electronic trackers, allowing the hybrids a chance to run away.

Wendy and Hermit convince Nibs to go with them before heading into the jungle and toward a boat.

What happens to Arthur?

Episode 6 ended with a facehugger attaching itself to Arthur, and Slightly (Adarsh Gourav) sneaking Arthur’s body into an air duct.

The latest episode begins with Slightly hiding Arthur’s body under his bed, with the facehugger still firmly latched. Smee (Jonathan Ajayi) later visits Slightly’s room and sees Arthur. Slightly explains how he is trying to meet up with Morrow (Babou Ceesay) on the beach, and give Arthur’s body to him.

Smee reluctantly agrees to help Slightly, and after some assistance from Kirsch, they carry Arthur into the jungle outside the research facility. There, Arthur awakens after the facehugger detaches itself from him. He doesn’t remember anything that happened with his alien encounter, and Slightly and Smee come up with a lie.

They tell him there was a gas leak in the lab that’s causing him memory loss. Eventually, Slightly and Smee bring Arthur to the beach, where the baby Xenomorph bursts from his chest, killing him.

Why does Kirsch help Smee and Slightly?

While attempting to sneak Arthur’s body out of the research facility, Slightly and Smee are caught by Kirsch.

Slightly explains to Kirsch that Morrow, “the man from the ship,” has been talking to him in his head.

“He asked me to bring Arthur to the beach,” he confesses.

To his surprise, Kirsch is already aware of the plan. Instead of stopping them, Kirsch helps them take the fastest way to the beach, which is “through the secure elevator.”

Kirsch later saves Slightly and Smee from Morrow, who captured them after they failed to deliver the baby Xenomorph to him.

Kirsch reveals to Morrow and his men that the young alien creature is in his possession. After rescuing the two Lost Boys, telling them they “are grounded.”

Why is Wendy controlling the Xenomorph?

Throughout the season, there have been hints that Wendy has a psychic connection with the Xenomorph.

In episode 7, their bond is confirmed when Wendy communicates with an alien kept in the lab. Following her commands, the adult Xenomorph breaks from its containment chamber, killing the staff and soldiers, before eventually heading into the jungle.

Wendy, Hermit and Nibs then come face-to-face with a team of troopers set on stopping their escape. Wendy sends her signal to the mature alien hiding in the trees, and it attacks, swiftly killing the soldiers.

Afterward, the monster has a tender moment with Wendy, who pets its head, and communicates with it using clicking noises. The alien then turns and runs off into the jungle, as Hermit looks at his sister with an incredulous expression.

Wendy now knows that the adult Xenomorph follows her signals and will kill on command.

Is Nibs dead?

Wendy, Hermit and Nibs make it to the boat off the island, only to be held at gunpoint by Siberian (Diêm Camille) and other Prodigy Corporation soldiers.

After one of the soldiers throws Nibs’ stuffed animal in the water, she goes ballistic and tears off his jaw, killing him. Siberian shoots Nibs, and Hermit then electrocutes her. After the chaos, Nibs falls to the ground, spasming, seemingly with some life still left in her.

The action goes down on the boat dock as the adult Xenomorph watches from the jungle.
