Amanda Bynes is stepping back into the world of music!

The retired actress, 40, released a new song called “Girlfriend” with Zabba and rapper Fenix Flexin on Friday, April 10, her first new song in four years.

The track features an uptempo dance beat with some Auto-Tune as Bynes — who has signed with Create Music Group — sings, “My friends love hearing about you/I love everything you do/I wanna be your girlfriend.”

The song’s cover art features a snowy scene with a pink sky and bare, frost-covered trees. It's available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.

“My inspiration was a lot of EDM, as well as rap,” Bynes tells PEOPLE.

In a statement shared with E! News, her label, Create Music Group, described “Girlfriend” as a “catchy, high-replay record with a smooth West Coast bounce.”

The statement continued, “Built around a strong hook and confident, flirt-heavy energy, it’s designed for repeat listens and wide playlist appeal.”

Bynes has released a number of songs since quitting acting in 2010, including “Diamonds” in 2021 and “Fairfax” in 2022.

The She’s the Man star has also explored a number of other career avenues since walking away from Hollywood after legal troubles and struggles with substance abuse and mental health.

She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles in 2019, and also launched a short-lived podcast in 2023.

In December, Bynes shared a paparazzi photo to her Instagram Stories and revealed that she’s lost nearly 30 lbs. since starting Ozempic, a GLP-1 that regulates appetite and promotes weight loss.

“I usually don’t like paparazzi pictures bc I was 180lbs but now I’ve lost 28lbs on ozempic! I’m down to 152lbs,” she wrote. “I know I still look big but this photo is really inspiring to me!”

The post came months after she announced in April 2025 that she’d joined OnlyFans as a way of connecting with her fans.

“I won’t be posting any sleazy content,” she wrote. “Excited to join.”
