The movie Jennifer’s Body was “perfect” to Amanda Seyfried — except when it comes to the film’s marketing.
“I can’t critique this movie, to me it’s perfect. It’s got balls. [Screenwriter] Diablo Cody was outspoken and beautiful and smart and funny,” Seyfriend, 39, said in an interview with Variety published on Saturday, March 22.
“We were expressing a certain angst in a very specific, comedic way in a very specific genre,” she continued. “The special effects were so incredible, there were stunts, there was everything you could want.If the critics criticize anything, it would be the marketing. The marketing sucked, it just did. And we all agree.”
According to Seyfried, “The marketing team cheapened it like it was just a gory romp.”

Amanda Seyfried has advice for anyone experiencing a wardrobe malfunction: make sure Glen Powell is involved. In an interview with People published on Sunday, March 9, Seyfried said that she had a potentially mortifying experience at the 2023 Critics Choice Awards when “my boobs fell out of my dress.” “I was wearing this amazing vintage […]
“I think they ruined it, and I think Karyn and Diablo were a really good team,” she continued. “I love Needy. It was the first time I got to play really nerdy, wearing the glasses. Megan got to turn into a demon, it was awesome. We all just had a lot of fun, so I wanna celebrate it by doing a sequel.”
The role isn’t the only one Seyfried has looked back on recently. In a March 20 episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, she admitted that she was worried agreeing to star in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014 could hurt her career.
“Being a part of the first Marvel movie that bombs ain’t good for your career,” she shared. “I thought that because this was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon that it was gonna be Marvel’s first bomb and that Chris Pratt and I would never work again. I was wrong.”
So Seyfried said “no” to the part of Gamora that ultimately went to Zoe Saldaña.
The actress still has plenty of great things to say about the movie’s director James Gunn.
“[He’s] a genius and he’s fun and he’s a wonderful filmmaker, and he can make anything work,” she told podcast host Josh Horowitz. “But I was way too scared. I was at a precarious moment in my career, and I didn’t want to suffer for the work.”

Margot Robbie had a vision when it came to producing Barbie — and was willing to say anything to get her movie made. “I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, OK?” Robbie, 33, told Collider of convincing Mattel and […]
When pressed for why the movie didn’t seem like a good fit, Seyfried added, “I was really scared of the idea of being stuck and painted a different color because of the amount of time that the X-Men people had been, ‘cause I was working out with the same trainer that trained a bunch of people who were doing X-Men,” she said.
At the end of the day, Seyfried said movies that require heavy makeup and lots of special effects just aren’t for her. “I had done some green screen stuff, and it wasn’t my cup of tea, and I don’t regret any decision that I made,” she stated. “I made it for myself in the moment that I made it. It was good for me then, and it’s good for me now.”
