And Just Like That… viewers are having déjà vu!
In the latest episode of the Sex and the City spinoff, Nicole Ari Parker’s character, Lisa Todd Wexley, revealed that her father died suddenly from a stroke. However, as fans watched her navigate the emotional loss, they realized the storyline sounded familiar.
In the series premiere in 2021, Lisa mentioned that her dad died a year prior while speaking with Charlotte (Kristin Davis) about grief following Mr. Big’s (Chris Noth) death. Then, in a season 2 episode titled “ALIVE!,” Billy Dee Williams made a guest appearance as Lisa’s father, Lawrence Todd, at her anniversary party.
People took to social media to discuss the inconsistency.
“Has And Just Like That completely forgot they killed Lisa’s dad off already,” someone asked in a TikTok comparing the contradicting clips.
“Not everyone gets that kind of second chance,” another user joked in the comments.
While some wondered if the show was “written by AI,” others offered their theories for the confusion. The most popular suggestion was that Lisa has “two gay dads.”
“Did you ever think of that?!?” one person wrote.
PEOPLE reached out to HBO for comment.
This isn’t the first continuity error in the AJLT world.
In the second episode of season 2, Charlotte’s husband Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler) noted that his mom had “been dead for 10 years.”
After doing the math, SATC watchers realized that would have meant Charlotte was able to meet Harry’s mother despite the biggest issue in their relationship being his promise on her deathbed to marry a Jewish woman.
“Harry’s mom died before he met Charlotte,” a post on X from June 2023 read. “That was the whole reason she converted to Judaism so they could get married after he broke up with her because she wasn’t Jewish, it was a huge story arc in #SATC & not 1 person spotted this error?!”
SATC ran on HBO from 1998 until 2004 before returning for a sequel series on Max in late 2021, which succeeds two big-screen adaptations. It is currently on its third season, starring original cast members Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda and Davis as Charlotte. John Corbett, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler and Mario Cantone also returned to the series.
The rest of the cast includes Parker, Sarita Choudhury, Cathy Ang, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Sebastiano Pigazzi, Alexa Swinton and Dolly Wells.
