Andie MacDowell is supporting her Hollywood sisters — and women around the world — with her outlook on aging.
The actress, 67, appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Sept. 9 to share her empowering take on getting older during the “50 F***-Its” segment.
“I love you Drew, thank you for doing this,” began the Groundhog Day star and mom of three. She then went on to say that she “never” would’ve expected her grandmother, whom she “revered,” to succumb to the pressure of having a youthful appearance.
“That was not a concept that existed and this concept has demeaned us as we age. It has now made us feel shameful,” MacDowell told host Drew Barrymore. “I have three little grandchildren and I’m gonna be a grandmother for them and I’m going to look like what I’m supposed to look because I love myself and I don’t have to look young and I love you for doing this.”
Barrymore, who starred in the 1994 film Bad Girls with MacDowell, was joined by Halle Berry, Valerie Bertinelli and Nate Burleson on her show’s panel, which also discussed perimenopause and important lessons on self-worth.

MacDowell has long been vocal about defying societal beauty standards for older women and has, in fact, expressed her views on aging by simply embracing her gray hair, a look that has now become synonymous with her on and off the red carpet.
“I think it’s an individual choice,” MacDowell told PEOPLE at L’Oréal Paris’ 2023 Women of Worth Celebration. “My two oldest sisters will color their hair forever. So, I think everybody has to make their individual choice about how they feel about aging, what they want to do as they age, and what makes them more comfortable.”
“It makes me laugh when someone says it makes me look older,” she told Katie Couric in an interview shared on the journalist’s YouTube page. “You know I’m [turning] 65, what do you think, I look 75 just because I let my hair go?”
“But I don’t care, I want to be old,” she continued. “I’m tired of trying to be young. I don’t want to be young. I’ve been young. And to be an older person trying to be young, what an effort. That’s a lot of effort. I just can’t keep up the charade… I can’t!”
Barrymore, who turned 50 this past February, has publicly shared her outlook on the subject, saying in a recent interview for AAPR The Magazine that she’s “the happiest” she’s ever been.
Likewise, Berry, 59, said in her 2024 interview with Fortune Magazine that she believes climbing up in age is a “privilege” and that women should feel like the “crowned jewels of our society.”
Bertinelli, 65, has joked about the changes in her appearance with age with humor (“I’ve seen parts of my body that are sagging that didn’t use to sag,” she once wrote on Instagram), while also sharing details of her menopausal journey on a past episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “I love being able to talk about it because things are happening to my body,” she told PEOPLE at the 2024 Food & Wine Classic event.
MacDowell currently stars in Hallmark Channel’s The Way Home, which is also available to stream on Hallmark+.
