For Ariana Biermann, family will always come first.
In the premiere of Next Gen NYC, the 23-year-old revealed that she has been loaning mom Kim Zolciak-Biermann money amid her messy divorce from Kroy Biermann. Although it was a difficult topic to open up about on camera, Ariana tells PEOPLE she wanted to be honest with the viewers.
“I think it’s a little nerve-wracking to obviously share the money situation,” she admits. “Money makes things awkward, and I hate what money can do to people. I really have tried to not ever let it affect me and my mom’s relationship — she’s my best friend in the world. It was no one’s goal for this to be the way that it was, and we haven’t let it affect us.”
“I think people have a different idea of my money situation and think that I’m balling,” she adds. “I’m like, no, definitely not the case.”
Ariana also notes that Kim, 47, “is very good at paying me back,” despite telling her mom she didn’t have to “worry about it” in the premiere.
“She’s done a few shows, which is amazing, and so they take a second to get paid out for everything,” Ariana explains. “My mom always pays me back though, but it’s definitely gotten better. She’s working really hard.”
In addition to the money Kim has been borrowing, Ariana shared in the show that she never received any of the income she made before she turned 18 from Kim or Kroy, 39.
“I have been on TV since I was 5-years-old, I did reality television with my family,” she said. “Then I started posting on Instagram. I got my first brand deal when I was 14. I was doing like three posts a week. You get paid astronomical to do a story or do an Instagram post, and I made quite a lot of money. But, unfortunately, my parents took my money.”
“Can’t say exactly what they used it on because I just found out it was gone two years ago,” she continued. “I don’t even know how much money I made over the time period. Nobody was honest. There was no transparency and I have no idea where it actually went.”
Expressing frustration that Kim was posting photos with “a $200 bottle of wine,” Ariana confessed that she doesn’t know what to believe.
“I wish I would’ve been kept in the light about it because I feel like I was grown enough to know the truth, to know there’s nothing left,” she reflected. “Our house is about to be gone.”
At the time, Kim and Kroy — who legally adopted Ariana and her older sister Brielle, 27, in July 2013 and share four more children together — were facing foreclosure on their Georgia mansion. They later sold it for $2.75 million, which was less than half their original asking price, and are now living separately after filing for divorce three times since May 2023.
As the scene came to an end, Ariana pointed out that “the lying is why I moved out,” but maintained that she will always be there when her mom needs her.
“She’s going through this crazy divorce and the mother to four kids,” Ariana said. “I get it, and I never want money to destroy my relationship with my family, ever.”
