Cookbook author Ayesha Curry and her husband, NBA star Stephen Curry, have been married for 13 years.
Together, they share four kids, 12-year-old Riley, 9-year-old Ryan, 6-year-old Canon, and 9-month-old Caius. Over the last 13 years, Ayesha, 35, and Stephen have shared their love story and their family with the public. And in a recent event for her brand Sweet July, Ayesha shared the secret to their successful marriage.
“I think for us, our relationship always comes first,” Ayesha explained to People. “Then we’re parents. And that works for us because then you have two happy people raising the kids in the house. So the family sector in our lives always comes first.”
She continued, “And then honestly, it’s just surrounding ourselves with people that are smarter than us and know what they’re doing and can make the things run. And they allow us the space to be creative and they allow us the space to truly show up however we choose to. And I think that’s what’s really worked for us.”
Some of those helpers are her daughters.
“The girls are like little moms,” Ayesha sad of Riley and Ryan. “It’s the best decision we’ve ever made,” Ayesha said of welcoming Caius six years after Canon, who “truly feels like a big brother. He only wants to protect him.”
After her comments on the prioritization of her marriage were made public, fans applauded the wife and mother for her candor.

“My kids will tell their future partners stories about how much their mom and dad loved each other and intern aspire to have a strong and loving relationship themselves,” a commenter said in support.
“As it should be,” another social media user wrote, while a third added, “100% agree. A healthy marriage = healthy parents.”
The couple have known each other since they were teenagers. Ayesha described Stephen, 36, as “the cute boy at church that all of the girls were obsessed with.”

In 2017, Ayesha told Entertainment Tonight that their friendship was very important to their relationship, and it seems it continues to be years into their marriage as well.
“I feel like the second that you forget to stop and take the time to communicate and look each other in the eyes and have that time together and be silly together and laugh, that’s when you lose it, so it’s always important to keep that fire going in order to have a healthy relationship,” she said at the time.
That same year, Ayesha said she was “proud” of the way that fans often call her and Stephen’s relationship couple goals.
“I feel pretty confident that we can uphold people’s hopes,” Ayesha said. And seven years later, that still holds true.
