Bella Hadid is still figuring herself out.

The model, 29, and her sister Gigi Hadid, 30, did an interview for Vogue Italia, in which they conversed about creating a better work-life balance and learning when to say "no." Bella admitted that wasn't so easy to do.

In the piece published on Feb. 23, The Beauty and Yellowstone actress said that she had to turn down "every job for almost a year" due to her treatment for Lyme disease, which was "emotional because you feel disposable," she admitted.

However, Bella said that she feels more aligned with herself now and "being able to be in Texas with my horses and my dog, having a real life, and then going back to work makes it more fulfilling."

She explained that her previous outlook on work "was not sustainable," and she has been learning how to disconnect her value as a person from the successes in her professional life in therapy.

"For so long, saying no to a job was like who was I to say no to anything?" said Bella. "Then I had to kind of release it and be like: I think people know my heart and my personality and who I am enough now that I can release that and really do the jobs that are with and for the people that I love and trust and support and respect. And that's good enough. And I'm good enough."

Bella has been living with Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness that causes her severe joint pain, anxiety, brain fog, extreme tiredness and other symptoms, since she was 16. Her brother, Anwar Hadid, and mom, Yolanda Hadid, have also been diagnosed with the condition.

Throughout her life in the spotlight, Bella has shared updates about going in and out of treatment.

In August 2023, she wrote on Instagram, "Living in this state, worsening with time and work while trying to make myself, my family and the people who support me, proud, had taken a toll on me in ways I can’t really explain. To be that sad and sick with the most blessings/privilege/opportunity/love around me was quite possibly the most confusing thing ever."

At the time, Bella wrote that she was "finally healthy" after an intense treatment program for the illness.

She again updated fans on the state of her health on Sept. 17, 2025 sharing photos from a hospital bed to her Instagram with the caption, "I’m sorry I always go MIA I love you guys."

Yolanda shared further insight on her daughter's condition with a series of Instagram photos of her youngest daughter connected to tubes.

“You have fought through another month of treatment and I know god is good, miracles do happen everyday 🙏 I pray for your speedy recovery my love. This disease has brought us to our knees, but we always get back up. We will continue to fight for better days together. You are a survivor… I love you so much my badass Warrior," wrote the former Bravo star.
