Good news for Big Little Lies fans: The show’s creator, David E. Kelley, has provided an update on season 3 of the star-studded HBO series.

Kelley, 70, spoke to PEOPLE exclusively at the New York City premiere of his new Apple TV+ show, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, on April 8. During the conversation, the legendary television producer confirmed that plans are being made for a third season of Big Little Lies.

“We're getting the band back together, and it should be a good run again,” he said, adding that he’s “not allowed” to reveal anything else.

Big Little Lies, which starred Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz, premiered in 2017 for a seven-episode run. The wildly popular series premiered its second season — which brought on Meryl Streep — in 2019 for another seven episodes.

Kelley previously indicated that a new season would hopefully eventually be underway, telling PEOPLE in June 2025 that while none of the show’s main stars were “under contract” yet, “everyone is very committed to it.”

Later that year in September, it was announced that screenwriter and producer Francesca Sloane had signed on to pen the season 3 premiere, per Deadline.

While speaking to PEOPLE at the Margo’s Got Money Troubles premiere, Kelley dished on what it’s like working with Kidman, 58, who also appears in his new Apple TV+ show, on yet another project.

“It's a little bit of luck. There's a lot of people dying to work with Nicole,” Kelley said.

“She's obviously a gifted actress. The fact that we've worked together in the past gave us an inside track, I guess, on this project,” he continued, adding that her character in Margo is “a completely different role for her.”

“When I told her what it was, I half expected her to laugh and say, ‘You're kidding,’ but instead she jumped in and said, ‘Let's go for it!’ And that's a testament to her, her spirit and her creative ferocity,” Kelley said.
