Body Found in Lake amid Search for Missing Mom-of-3 Last Seen Buying Groceries at Gas Station: Police

A body has been found amid the search for a missing woman in England after she was last seen visiting a gas station over the weekend.

Rachel Booth, 38, was reported missing during the early hours of the morning on Saturday, July 19, after she was last seen by family in the village of Barnton, Northwich, U.K., Cheshire Constabulary said in a previous news release.

Booth had been “sighted at around 3.50 a.m. [local time] that morning” at a gas station on the A556 road, police said.

The missing woman is a mother-of-three, per ITV, which stated that the gas station was around five miles away from where family had last seen her.

In an updated news release on Monday, July 21, police said they had “sadly found a body” amid the search.

“Rachel Booth was reported missing from the Barnton area of Northwich on Saturday 19 July by her family,” the post added. “Officers have been searching tirelessly for the 38-year-old since her disappearance.”

“Following extensive appeals and searches in the area, officers have now sadly recovered a body in a lake in Oakmere,” it continued.

“Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of Rachel. Her family have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers. They have requested privacy at this time,” police shared, confirming “there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

“A file will be prepared for the coroner,” the release concluded.

A gas station worker had previously told The Sun that Booth had bought wine and milk from the location after going for a 45-minute run.

Issac Carolan, 19, said, “I spoke to my colleague who had served her on Saturday morning,” per the outlet.

“She bought milk and wine and jogged from 45 minutes away,” the gas station worker added, according to the paper. “But it didn’t seem weird, she didn’t seem disturbed or flustered.”

The police release previously stated, “Rachel is described as 5’ 9” tall, of a slim build, with blonde hair, and is believed to be wearing black leggings and a black top.”

“It is believed she may have [traveled] to the Oakmere area of Delamere, where officers, assisted by the Underwater Search Team, are currently following all possible lines of enquiry.”

ITV reported that two underwater search unites had been seen arriving at the Delamere Lake holiday park, next to Wild Shore Delamere water park, on the morning of Monday, July 21.

Wild Shore Delamere confirmed on Facebook that it would remain closed on Monday and Tuesday, July 22 amid “police investigations.”

“The incident is unrelated to Wild Shore — however, we wish to help as much as possible — so we will be closing the site until further notice,” the message, also obtained by PEOPLE in an email, said.

Local superintendent Paul Hughes previously said, “We are currently following a number of enquiries to trace Rachel and we are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.”

“As part of our investigation, our officers and partner agencies, including the Underwater Search Team and Cheshire Search and Rescue, are conducting enquiries in the Oakmere and surrounding areas where it is believed Rachel [traveled] to, and we would like to thank local businesses for their patience and understanding while these are currently ongoing,” he added.

“Investigators are following all lines of enquiry and anyone who has seen Rachel since she was reported missing is asked to contact us. The same goes for anyone who has any information on her whereabouts,” Hughes continued.

Cheshire police and a spokesperson for Shell — which owns the gas station where Booth was last seen — didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
