Brad Pitt Reflects on ‘Mistakes’ to ‘Learn From’ and Surrounding Yourself with ‘People That Love You Back’

Brad Pitt is feeling reflective.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the F1 premiere in Mexico City this week, the 61-year-old actor opened up about navigating life’s twists and turns.

“No matter the mistake, you know, you just learn from it and move on,” Pitt said during the Monday, June 9 red carpet interview. “It’ll lead to the next success,” he added.

“Really, I think you get to my age and see how important it is to surround yourself with the people you know, the people you love, the people that love you back. Friends, family, and that’s it. From there, we get to go make things. It’s a pretty simple, I think, equation,” he continued.

Pitt was reflecting on comments he made about his life being “contained” and “secure” in a May interview with GQ, which also included profiles of his F1 costar Damson Idris as well as Lewis Hamilton, a real-life F1 driver and one of the film’s producers.

“My personal life is always in the news,” Pitt said during his conversation with GQ. “It’s been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let’s put it that way.”

He was then asked if making the action movie and getting to drive fast cars was “a refuge from all the attention.”

“Um, I don’t see it that way,” Pitt replied.

“It’s been an annoyance I’ve had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do. So, it’s always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that. Mostly I feel pretty…. My life is fairly contained. It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it’s like this fly buzzing around a little bit,” the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actor added.

Pitt and Angelina Jolie, 50, split in 2016 before being declared legally single in 2019. The pair, who are parents to six children, finalized their divorce in December 2024, following years of legal back-and-forth.

Pitt is currently in a relationship with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon, whom he has been dating since late 2022.

“Brad is happy that the divorce is behind him. Things are low-key for the family,” a source told PEOPLE in March, adding that the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood actor is “happy” with his girlfriend.

F1, from Apple Original Films, is in theaters June 27 — just days before the Austrian Grand Prix.
