Bride Annoyed at Bridesmaid for Not Getting a Babysitter for Bridal Party Before Wedding: ‘Not Just Being Bridezilla’

NEED TO KNOW

  • A Mumsnet user who is getting married next spring is annoyed about her bridesmaid missing the bridal party
  • The bride-to-be shared that the bridesmaid doesn’t want to find someone to take care of her baby for two nights
  • Most Mumsnet users agreed that the future newlywed is being unreasonable for being mad at the bridesmaid

A friendship is being tested after a bridesmaid informed the bride-to-be that she’ll miss the bridal party scheduled for the night before the wedding.

The bride detailed the dilemma on the community forum Mumsnet, where she asked if she’s being unreasonable for feeling annoyed that her bridesmaid refuses to find a babysitter for her child in order to attend the bridal party.

“Getting married next spring and my bridesmaid can only stay for one night due to childcare, meaning she can only stay the night of the wedding and won’t be with the bridal party the night before,” she explained.

“Surely that’s a pretty basic expectation?” she said of attending the bridal party, which typically involves a dinner and a rehearsal for the wedding party, with other close friends as well as the bride and groom’s closest relatives.

The bride-to-be noted that the bridesmaid and her partner will still attend the wedding, when the bridesmaid’s mom will take care of the baby.

“But on the night before, her partner could care for the baby, but she doesn’t want to leave the baby for the nights,” the bride wrote, adding that the “wedding is far from home so it makes wedding day logistics v v v difficult due to early ceremony. Not just being bridezilla.”

In a Mumsnet poll under her post, 98 percent of the nearly 1,700 voters as of May 8 chose the “You are being unreasonable” voting option.

“It’s not what you want to hear but if you don’t have children you don’t understand,” one person replied. “Don’t fall out with her over this. There may be other factors she doesn’t want to disclose (i.e. the cost of an extra night, meals, hair and makeup, etc. — being a bridesmaid is expensive!).”

Another person wrote, “You are being very unreasonable and a horrible friend, why should your friend be away from her baby for two nights just because YOU are getting married 🤷🏼‍♀️ main character syndrome much 🙄.”
