Bryan Cranston had quite an eventful weekend!

The actor, 69, wasn’t in attendance at the 77th annual Emmy awards on Saturday, Sept. 6, when he won for his guest role in Seth Rogen’s The Studio. He revealed during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he was at a wedding in Minnesota that night, so he was taken by surprise when he learned of the big win.

“We were celebrating that and that’s been planned for a long time,” Cranston explained. “So the bride’s mom, Callen, came over and said, ‘You won.’ And at first I looked down at my plate and I said, ‘Taking the most food or?’ And she said, ‘No.’”

“It left my mind,” he admitted of his nomination. “I’ve got to say that this wasn’t televised, was it? So I’m thinking, if an Emmy Awards is not televised, did you really win?”

Lucky for Cranston, host Jimmy Kimmel arranged a mock ceremony for him to recreate the moment. The Breaking Bad alum jokingly accepted the trophy and pretended to rack his brain for people to thank.

“I’m so sorry, you’ve run out of time!” Kimmel said as loud exit music began to play, poking fun at how award shows typically cut off celebrity speeches.

Later in the episode, Cranston recalled the first time he ever won an Emmy — this is his seventh, along with four for his lead role in Breaking Bad and two for producing the critically acclaimed show.

“When I won my first, I slept with it,” he laughed. “And I had puncture marks all over my face in the morning.”

He also shared where he keeps all his awards: “In my office upstairs, where I keep all little treasures of mine.”

“I don’t want them out in the main part of the house,” he added.

Cranston played Continental Studios CEO Griffin Mill in the debut season of The Studio, in which Rogen stars as well as serves as a writer and co-creator.

The show follows Rogen’s Matt Remick — a film exec who still believes in original films amid a sea of IP-based movies — after Griffin gives him a chance to run Continental Studios as its new head.

Up against Cranston for the win were Jon Bernthal for The Bear (FX on Hulu) and Dave Franco, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie and Martin Scorsese all for The Studio.
