Captain Jason Hints at Firing Someone on ‘Below Deck Down Under’ Season 3: ‘Cut Some Cancer Out’ (Exclusive)

Captain Jason Chambers is laying down the law during season 3 of Below Deck Down Under.

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Jason, 52, teased that not everyone remains on the boat until the end.“I do cut some cancer out. No pun intended since I just had a melanoma cut out,” he said. “But I do get on top of some things — whether it is a termination or not — you’ll have to wait and see.”

Jason subsequently acknowledged the obvious “friction” between the chief stew and bosun this season.

“Obviously, as a captain, I wouldn’t think that would be the case,” he said. “I would actually think I’d be worrying more about the junior [members] than the heads of department who should actually be professional enough and experienced enough to be able to get through the hurdles that are there.”

The Below Deck franchise has had its fair share of drama over the years — and Below Deck Down Under is no different. The spinoff show, which premiered on Peacock in March 2022, left a memorable impression on viewers when it came to feuds, firings and chaos. During the first season, fans and cast alike […]

Despite keeping his hopes high for this charter season, Jason didn’t mind stepping in when necessary.

“If you’ve seen me on seasons 1 and 2, I’m all about positivity and team’s that run themselves. I’m not here to micromanage you. I’m here to help,” he noted. “Our end goal is to get to a point where we do grow, succeed and give the guests everything they want. That is a simple task to follow, isn’t it?”

Season 3, which premiered on Monday, February 3, features Jason back at the helm alongside alums Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph and deckhand Harry Van Vliet. They were joined by newbies bosun Wihan Du Toit, chief stew Lara Rigby, deckhands Johnny Arvanitis and Adair Werley, stews Brianna Duffield and Marina Marcondes de Barros and sous-chef Anthony Bird.

“I will not tolerate heads of department yelling at each other,” Jason told the crew in a sneak peek at the rest of the season. “There is an undercurrent of negativity onboard and to me it is an infection. I am just going to keep cutting the infection so I have to let you go.”

Bravo and Peacock viewers were in for a treat with the premiere of Below Deck Down Under — with many of the show’s stars leaving a lasting impression. The spinoff series, which debuted in 2022, featured Below Deck Mediterranean alum Aesha Scott. The chief stew joined Captain Jason Chambers and the rest of the group […]

In the official trailer, one of the men was seen punching the wall late at night. No further details have been shared by the rest of the cast so far. There will also be boatmances to unpack.

“The last couple of seasons we didn’t really have any romance so you’re going to be guaranteed that,” he told Us. “However, it’s a remote cruise this season. It’s somewhere beautiful. It was easy to attract guests to come and it’s the first time the franchise has been in Africa. So that’s something great and it spreads our wings a bit — so I’m looking forward to that.”

Jason added that in real-life, there would be “romances on board” so it makes since that it goes down on the show. :”It’s important to understand that these franchises are trying to show the audience what it’s like to work on a boat,” he said.” We do probably six or seven months worth of chartering in six weeks, so let’s just face it. … “Let’s get into it and see how it works. It really just gives the audience a really good look at how we’re working. You want it to go the distance. But fatigue sets in and a few nights out and we’ve seen in the past in other franchises that things don’t last too long.”

Below Deck Down Under season 3 premieres on Bravo Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
