Care Home Hosts Its Own 10-Day Version of The Traitors, Featuring a Special Twist You Won’t See on TV

NEED TO KNOW

  • A care home in England recently hosted its own version of The Traitors — complete with a special twist
  • The event ended up taking 10 days, as participants took part in missions and roundtable discussions, as well as other murder-mystery activities
  • Another special surprise? A contestant from the U.K. version of the popular show even sent in a special video message

Faithful or Traitor? That was for residents at one care home to decide as they played their own game based on the popular television series The Traitors.

For 10 days, residents at Parkfield Grange Care Home in Stourbridge, England, participated in their own version of the game, leading up to the conclusion of the latest season of the show on Jan. 23, according to the BBC.

Similar to the show, which airs on BBC One across the pond and on Peacock in the U.S., participants took part in missions and roundtable discussions as well as other murder-mystery activities like puzzles and scavenger hunts.

“There is a pre-conceived idea of what being in a care home is like,” said Emily Hocking, the home’s admissions adviser, “and it’s our responsibility to make sure that our residents are living and not existing.”

No one at the home was excluded from the game, and in a special twist, those who were eliminated were still able to help point out traitors as “guardians” of the game, according to the BBC.

One key difference was replacing murders with eliminations, allowing residents to “continue to play and not feel excluded in their own home,” according to Hocking.

Parkfield Grange offered an inside look at their game in a video on their Facebook page, which showed players casting their votes at the roundtable and venturing around the care home while participating in missions.

Former Traitors U.K. contestant Kate Garraway even sent the care home residents a special message or support while their game played out, according to ITV.

“From one Traitors contestant to a whole bunch of brilliant Traitors contestants, I want to wish you a massive, massive, massive good luck for your final roundtable tonight,” she said. “So challenging! I’m excited.”

The prize for winning the game? An afternoon tea and two guests in the home’s private dining room, according to the BBC.
