Just because Anna Wintour has a no-phone policy at the Met Gala doesn’t mean every celebrity attendee will adhere to it.
Megan Thee Stallion, Halle Bailey and Questlove were some of the celebrities who found a way to take Us behind the scenes despite Vogue‘s editor-in-chief, who has been a Met Gala chair or co-chair since 1995, heavily discouraging using phones once guests enter the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“That’s kept largely under wraps; guests must abide by a no-phone (and, therefore, no social media) policy once they’ve entered the museum,” Vogue reported in 2024. “But the run-of-show involves cocktails, dinner … and a high-profile performer (or two). Attendees also always have a moment to explore the exhibition.”
The other rules include attendees requiring an invitation in order to be at the Met Gala. The list is kept under wraps until the night of and fashion designers often attend alongside the guests whose outfits they designed for the red carpet.

In addition to needing an invitation, guests have to pay for their ticket, which can go for around $75,000 while a table starts at $350,000, according to CBS News. There is also no smoking allowed and celebrities must sit in their assigned seats.
“We start with a seating document when the names come together in December,” event planner Eaddy Kiernan told Vogue in April. “And we try to make sure someone isn’t staring into the eyes of a former flame. It’s fun for me to look back through them, to see who was invited.”

Megan Thee Stallion
The rapper, 30, acknowledged in an Instagram video that Met Gala attendees are “not supposed to have our phones,” adding, “But we are doing it.” Megan Thee Stallion showed herself eating hors d’oeuvre with Doechii and Angel Reese.
Megan Thee Stallion also filmed herself with Cynthia Erivo, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o and Serena Williams.
“I snuck my phone in,” Megan Thee Stallion quipped before uploading more content with Michael Kors, Ciara and Tessa Thompson.

In his own social media uploads, Questlove, 54, gathered a large group of celebrities — including Met Gala co-chairs Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton — for a group selfie in the bathroom. In addition to the trio, Tracee Ellis Ross, Evan Ross, Erivo, Tramell Tillman, Quinta Brunson, Sarah Snook and more were in the iconic photo.
