Charli xcx didn’t know she’d “unlock” a Grammy nomination.
In a cover story for W Magazine published on Thursday, Jan. 30, the alt-pop star (whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison) opened up about receiving eight nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
“Let’s be real, I wasn’t even on the Grammys’ radar last year, so it’s not something I ever expected,” said Charli, 32. “The thing is, wherever I am becomes fun anyway, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out.”
She added: “I’m just a good time.”
Charli noted that she was looking forward to just enjoying herself during the awards show.
“My dream scenario would be getting a plus-10 so I could bring all my best friends, but, realistically, I’ll probably get a plus-one,” she teased. “Maybe Troye [Sivan] and I can share and make it a plus-two.”
In the past, Charli received two Grammy nominations. This year, she’s up for album of the year, record of the year, best pop duo/group performance, best pop solo performance, best dance/electronic album, best dance pop recording, best recording package and best music video.
After Charli released her sixth studio album in June 2024, it ignited a cultural movement that’s even made its way to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign.
“kamala IS brat,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in July 2024, prompting Harris’s team to utilize the Brat aesthetic for the campaign.

In October 2024, Charli released a remix album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, which included collaborations with Robyn & Yung Lean, BB trickz, Grande, The 1975 and Jon Hopkins, Troye Sivan, Addison Rae, Caroline Polachek, Bladee, A.G. Cook, Lorde, The Japanese House, Tinashe, Julian Casablancas, Bon Iver, Shygirl and Billie Eilish.
Prior to the album’s release, the 10-time Grammy nominee dropped a music video for the “Guess” remix with Eilish, and “Talk Talk” with Sivan.
She also released the remix to “Von Dutch” with Rae and Cook, as well as “Girl, So Confusing” featuring Lorde.
