Chet Hanks is opening up about what it was like to work with his father, Tom Hanks, on his new music video.
The artist and son of the prolific actor, 34, appeared alongside his Something Out West collaborator, Drew Arthur, on Today on Tuesday, June 24, where he dished about the experience of working with his dad on the visuals for their track “You Better Run” to host Jenna Bush Hager.
“Oh, man, he’s a real prima donna,” Chet quipped, before quickly adding, “I’m just kidding. He’s the most easygoing dude ever. Love you, Dad.”
Arthur shared similar reverence for the Oscar-winning star, telling Bush Hager, 43, “It was funny because I had to do a scene before him, and he’s just standing there. I was like, ‘Tom was waiting for me.’ ”

Chet is son to Tom and Rita Wilson. The pair also shares another son, Truman.
Tom is also a parent to two children with his ex-wife, Samantha Lewes: son Colin Hanks, whom he welcomed in in 1977, and daughter, Elizabeth Hanks, who was born in 1982. Tom and Lewes divorced in 1987, and the latter died in 2002.
Chet and Arthur’s joint musical effort came to a head in 2025 when the pair nabbed a record deal with Big Machine Records at the top of the year. According to their official website, “Something Out West was born in California when bandmates Chet and Drew became roommates at a pivotal time — both embarking on a journey to sobriety that sparked a deep friendship and creative partnership.”

Just after signing with Big Machine, Chet chatted with Esquire about his excitement surrounding putting out new music and starring in the new Netflix series Running Point, his first acting gig.
“Ultimately, I consider myself an artist, and acting and music are just two different mediums for being able to express myself,” he shared at the time. “I’ve been working on this music for a long time, and so I would like to be touring and finally letting the world hear it.”
