Gracie Hunt is expressing her sorrow following the passing of a young relative.
PEOPLE previously reported that 9-year-old Janie Hunt, a family member of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, was one of the Camp Mystic campers who died in the Texas floods.
The Christian girls’ camp experienced catastrophic flooding after deadly waters swept through the state on Friday, July 4.
And on Monday, July 7, Clark’s daughter Gracie Hunt, 26, shared an emotional post about the tragedy.
“Praying for Texas 🙏🏼 Some days, it’s hard to understand how the world can hold both so much beauty and so much pain,” she wrote. “How can the same God who created the stars and set the planets in motion allow such deep suffering?”
Gracie added, “The truth is, we live in a broken world — one that groans for redemption (Romans 8). But Scripture promises that one day, Christ will make all things new — a new heaven and a new earth (2 Peter 3:13).”

“My heart aches for our extended family and friends who lost daughters — for every life lost and every family shattered by the floods in Texas,” she continued. “I don’t have easy answers, but I do know this: following Jesus doesn’t spare us from pain, but it means we never face it alone. 🤍.”
Gracie added, “Even in the darkest valleys, we hold on to the hope that this is not the end of the story.”
Hunt then shared bible verses 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 and Psalm 23:4.
Meanwhile, Gracie’s mother, Tavia Hunt, commented, “Jesus be near 💔😭🙏🏼.”
Tavia also expressed her heartbreak following the news of Janie’s passing.
“Our hearts are broken by the devastation from the floods in Wimberley and the tragic loss of so many lives — including a precious little Hunt cousin, along with several friends’ little girls,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
Janie’s family confirmed her death in a statement to PEOPLE, stating, “We are devastated.”
According to Fox News, Janie was the late billionaire William Herbert Hunt’s great-granddaughter, while William Herbert was the brother of Clark’s late father Lamar Hunt.
As of Monday, July 7, at least 94 people were confirmed to have died following the floods, with 75 fatalities taking place in Kerr County, according to CNN.
Camp Mystic also confirmed in a statement that 27 of their campers and counselors were among the victims.
