Chrissy Teigen Says the ‘Smartest Thing’ She’s ‘Ever Done’ Is ‘Surround’ Herself with ‘Really Smart People’

Chrissy Teigen is revealing some of the secrets to her success.

During an appearance at a brunch event on Friday, March 14, to celebrate the launch of her new Audible podcast, Self-Conscious, Teigen, 39, commented on her decision to “surround” herself with “really smart people” through the years.

While discussing her new podcast, the Cravings cookbook author — who attended the event, held at House of Good in Los Angeles, with her husband, John Legend, 46 — told attendees and reporters of welcoming special guests onto her show, “Going around talking about this topic is so wild to me, the topic of wellness, because I am, like, not well. I think we’ve all seen it, I think we all know it.”

“But I’m on a constant mission to always be listening, learning, eager and hungry to learn and absorb all this knowledge from people like you who are in here today,” she insisted.

Teigen continued in her speech, “I think the smartest thing that I’ve ever done is surround myself by really smart people and I’ve always been, like, very insecure about how good I am at business, you know, I didn’t go to college, I didn’t do all this, I didn’t do that, but I was always really good about knowing who had a pure heart and good intentions and loved what they did.”

“So that’s what the podcast is. It’s so many of those types of people. I learned so much from all of them, and I hope you guys do too as you continue to listen,” she added of the project, which focuses on well-being and features guests including Glennon Doyle, Peter Attia, Mel Robbins, Gabby Bernstein and more.

Legend, who dedicated a performance of his 2013 smash hit “All of Me” to Teigen and everyone trying to better themselves at Friday’s event, praised his wife’s work ethic and the fact that she shot the podcast in her bedroom.

“I’ve been watching Chrissy and being part of Chrissy’s journey of self-improvement and just being open-hearted and open-minded and being a great listener and thinking about all the things that go into being the best person that she can be and that we could be as a couple,” the musician told attendees in a speech.

“I’ve been part of this journey with her for a long time and now in our bedroom, she’s had these amazing conversations,” Legend continued, adding that he got to sit in on and “spy and listen” to some of the “wonderful conversations” for the podcast.

Teigen announced her podcast back in November, sharing at the time that she hoped her show could help people break the cycle of negative thoughts.

“All we do is do negative self-talk all day, and I think it’s just this beautiful hour release where we can do something to better ourselves and learn something,” the mom of four said.

“Over the course of these conversations, I’ve begun to peel back the layers of challenges hindering my own well-being; I hope listening to the podcast can do the same for listeners,” she added in a statement.

Self-Conscious with Chrissy Teigen is now available on Audible.
