Coachella Attendees Stunned by Festival’s ‘Diabolical’ Food and Drink Prices: ‘Miserable Money Trap’

  • One woman shared on TikTok that a taco, nachos and lemonades for two people cost her $102 at the festival
  • “Coachella seems like a miserable money trap that everyone falls for,” one person commented on the woman’s viral video

People attending the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival are stunned once again about the food prices — and many festivalgoers are turning to social media to highlight just how expensive everything is.

In videos shared on TikTok, Coachella attendees showed off what they ate and how much they paid for their meals or individual items.

TikToker Ruth Viveros shared in a April 11 video that she spend $102 for two plates of three tacos, a plate of loaded nachos and two lemonades, with each lemonade costing $17 per cup. “They’re not good, not good at all,” she said of the tacos. “The tortillas are like freezing cold.”

TikTok commenters were quick to criticize festival organizers for the food prices, joking that they were “diabolical” considering the limited options attendees have while out in the California desert in Indio.

“Coachella seems like a miserable money trap that everyone falls for,” one person wrote underneath her video.

“These prices are diabolical,” another commenter added.

Another video, shared by TikToker @FrugalJimmy, showed off a particularly pricey slice of pepperoni pizza that came out to $13 — which he joked was “not too bad.”

“I honestly thought it would be a lot more for a big slice of pizza,” he said, adding that it was still a good slice of pie. “So good.”

Festivalgoers preparing to descend on the Coachella Valley next weekend have also taken to the festival’s Reddit page to ask people camping out on the festival grounds for the prices of the meals available there.

“Expensive. Most items start at $15-20. ‘Meals’ are like $20-30,” one person replied. Another wrote, “It’s $30 for Nate’s Nashville hot chicken slider and fries. LMAO.”

Coachella’s website lists the food and drink options, noting that “Our food program features new and exciting restaurants from Coast to Coast, as well as your favorite staples, offering a wide variety of cuisine that pleases any festival-goer. Vegan & gluten-free options available.”

The three-day Coachella music festival — which kicked off on April 11 at the Empire Polo Club — is known for its star-powered musical performances and parties, as well as its pricey tickets.

General admission tickets for weekend one (consisting of three days) started at a $649, and weekend two tickets are currently going for $599. Prices only go up from there, as festivalgoers can purchase shuttle bus tickets, VIP passes and more, and it costs extra to pay for a spot to park your car on the grounds if you camp there or drive there.

Despite the prices, several of these TikTok users defended the festival and said that the music was well worth it.

“Does anyone have a genuinely good time at Coachella?” one commenter wrote underneath Ruth’s video. “All I see are horrendous prices and bad organization.”

“Yes!” she replied. “Coachella is actually very fun and inspiring & like everything else, there’s some rough things.”

This year’s lineup features performances by headliners Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone and Travis Scott.
