- New Mexico Pinon Coffee issued a voluntary recall of a single lot of its Dark Pinon Single Serve Cups for potential ink contamination
- A packaging error led to ink running under high heat and thus seeping into the coffee while brewing
- The ink is food-safe, but customers are still encouraged to dispose of or return the recalled product
A coffee company is recalling a lot of one of its single-serve coffee products due to possible ink contamination.
New Mexico Pinon Coffee issued a voluntary recall of a single lot of its Dark Pinon Single Serve Cups last month, per the brand’s site and an announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recall comes after the company learned of a packaging error, which caused food-safe ink to seep into the coffee when brewed.
Per the FDA, the clear seal on the lid of the coffee pod — made to be used in a Keurig’s K-cup machine — “did not get applied consistently to all cups in the production run,” causing the ink used on the seal to run when it came in contact with “high temperature, high pressure water.”
In some instances, the ink ran into the coffee itself during the brewing process, the brand’s announcement read.
The recall extends to a single lot: New Mexico Pinon Coffee Dark Pinon Single Serve 10ct Cups, with lot code 251749 and a best buy date of 05/08/2026. The product number is F03308, with a UPC number of 812361033081.
