Danielle Staub‘s ex-husband Kevin Maher — the man behind the iconic Cop Without a Badge book — broke his silence about their sex life and his whirlwind marriage to the Real Housewives of New Jersey alum.
During the newest installment of Investigation Discovery’s Hollywood Demons, which premieres on Monday, April 14, Maher made rare comments about how his relationship with Staub, 62, began when she was still using her birth name, Beverly Ann Merrill.
“In 1985 I was a paid confidential informant for the FBI, DEA, Secret Service, U.S Customs and the NYPD. I worked for them for five years undercover,” he revealed. “[One night] I pick up John — he was the drug dealer — at a club. On the way to the hotel, he introduced me to Beverly Ann Merrill.”
Maher was immediately smitten by Staub. “I walk in and there she is. Everything about her exuded sex,” he recalled. “The way she wore her clothes and the way she walked. She was in her absolute prime, and her body was flawless. It was the best sex of my life.”

According to Maher, they had a “super sexual” relationship which quickly turned more serious. Two days after they met, Staub admitted to Maher that she was out on bail after previously being arrested and facing prison time.
Real Housewives fans remember Staub’s legal drama coming to light during the first season of the New Jersey spinoff. Maher explained that Staub was connected to a drug dealer who was involved in narcotics trafficking, pistol whipping an individual and kidnapping.
“Then, like an idiot, I tell her I am an undercover confidential informant, and there’s a lot of things I could do for her,” he noted. “This is the first time in 40 years that I spoke out about how I confided in her and how stupid I was. You know what the Columbians would do if they found out I was an informant?”
Staub was arrested in 1986 in connection to a crime where an unnamed drug dealer allegedly kidnapped someone from Buffalo “who wanted to get into the drug trade and stole $25,000 worth of cocaine, beat him and held him hostage.” According to Hollywood Demons, authorities found 6 kilos of cocaine and about $16,000 in cash when Staub was arrested. She was initially charged with extortion, kidnapping and drug possession. Staub “denied any involvement in the kidnapping but admitted to talking to the victim’s father about his drug debt.”

Maher accused Staub of telling him “lies” about her past. “She fooled me and I felt sorry for her,” he shared in the ID special about helping Staub get five years probation and all charges except extortion getting dropped.
“I married her because I knew the parole guy would catch us, and she would go to prison because I’m a convicted felon,” he revealed about their marriage, which lasted from 1988 to 1989. Maher didn’t hear from Staub again until she joined the RHONJ cast in 2009 and her costars brought out his Cop Without a Badge book, which aired out Staub’s controversial past.
The assistant U.S attorney Theresa Van Viet also weighed in on Staub’s charges by saying she “was the least culpable.” After her arrest was brought up on the show, Maher sued her for defamation of character and they settled out of court in 2009.
