‘CSI’ Alum David Caruso Makes Rare Public Appearance: Inside His Life Now

David Caruso was spotted out and about during a rare public outing in Los Angeles.

Caruso, 69, was photographed carrying some paintings into his gallery in Westlake, California, on Wednesday, April 30. While transporting the art work, the CSI alum donned jeans, a light blue T-shirt and gray Crocs.

Caruso looked different than what fans are likely to expect from his on-camera,TV days, as he noticeably grew out his hair. The former actor’s red hair was nearly chin-length.

Later that day, Caruso was spotted for a second time with a female associate. He opted to wear a simple black Adidas tracksuit and sneakers, paired with some black sunglasses.

Caruso was best known for his roles as Detective John Kelly on the crime drama NYPD Blue and Lieutenant Horatio Caine on the CSI spinoff series CSI: Miami. He got his start in Hollywood in 1976 on the soap Ryan’s Hope.

Caruso would continue to act in minor projects before landing his breakout role in NYPD Blue, cementing himself as a legend in the procedural drama world. While he was a main cast member on NYPD Blue for the first two seasons, Caruso won a Golden Globe for his performance in 1994.

In 2002, Caruso joined the CSI world as the star of its Miami-themed spinoff. He remained on the series for a decade and appeared in every episode.

“The assemblage of people, and being a part of the CSI family, was so effortless for all of us,” Caruso said of joining the new series in an interview with CNN in 2002. “It would be great if we could do the show for a while. I’d be very comfortable doing this.”

CSI: Miami ended in 2012 after 10 seasons. Following the show’s finale, Caruso quietly retired from acting. He has never publicly addressed his retirement and has not appeared in any new projects after CSI: Miami. Instead, Caruso has pursued his interest in the art world via his very own gallery.
