Dancer Khasan Brailsford Marries Jason Silverman in Mexico Wedding Officiated by Pink! (Exclusive)

  • The couple got together after meeting during Pride in 2015 and had a lengthy engagement before making it down the aisle
  • Pink, a close friend and confidant, officiated their wedding

Khasan Brailsford has graced the stage with some of the world’s biggest stars, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Pink and more. But on May 24, the famed dancer shared the spotlight with long-term partner Jason Silverman when they tied the knot.

Brailsford and Silverman first met during Pride back in 2015 after they were introduced by mutual friends. While they didn’t know each other prior, friends promised that once they met, they’d instantly hit it off. Their friends were right.

Upon their introduction, Brailsford and Silverman felt a natural draw towards each other. So much so that the dancer cancelled the rest of his weekend plans to be with his new flame.

“We spent the entire weekend together,” Brailsford tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I changed all my plans around that I had for the weekend. I was like, ‘Okay, I’m coming to meet you Friday. I’m coming to meet you Saturday, again.’ And ended up just having the best time at the Pier Dance, dancing all day that Sunday.”

But even with all the sparks flying, the pair remained friends for a while before things turned romantic. With Brailsforf in Los Angeles and Silverman in New York, the two spent the following year flying back and forth to see each other. By the time they realized they had magic between them, they were so comfortable in their dynamic that the transition from friends to lovers happened seamlessly.

“We both were really enjoying our lives,” Silverman says. “I think that’s why it happened. There was no posturing. There was no nothing. We were just hanging out and had our guards down.”

Five years into their relationship, Silverman proposed to Brailsford while they were on vacation in Croatia. The plan was to get hitched as soon as possible, but between COVID and Brailsford’s busy schedule, the wedding kept getting postponed. Before they knew it, six years had gone by.

Finally, they decided to lock in a date after Brailsford wrapped the Summer Carnival Tour with Pink, last November.

On May 24, at the Four Seasons Tamarindo, the long-term couple gathered 115 of their closest family and friends for a memorable weekend to celebrate their love. The festivities started with a tennis tournament on Friday, where guests let their hair down and got acclimated.

That was followed by a welcome party later in the evening.

Then came the big day. The grooms wore custom Tommy Hilfiger Purple Label and were styled by Randy Cousins, who recently worked with Damson Idris for his viral Met Gala look. Of course, with the Met Gala theme being all about tailoring, Brailford reveals Cousins was hyper-focused on making sure the tailoring was flawless.

“Every fitting with us, his mind was so Met Gala. When he was tailoring us, [everything was] to the T. In our last fitting, he’s like, ‘That needs to come in a quarter or an eighth.’ It was just so specific,” Brailsford jokes. “He also was like, ‘Don’t gain or lose [weight]. You have 10 pounds, don’t get bigger.’ ”

While Brailsford has worked with the world’s biggest celebrities, for the wedding he opted to keep things less starry. There weren’t a bunch of mega-stars on the guest list. However, the couple made sure one special person was not only in attendance, but also held a key role in the wedding: Pink.

Brailsford and Silverman’s “I Dos” were officiated by the “Cover Me in Sunshine” singer, with whom the former has worked since 2012. And while the choice was an easy pick for the couple, the tale behind getting her to do it is one for the books.

“We’ve been together for 13 years now, and I’m her partner. We’ve just gotten really close to where we’re like family. We take vacations together now,” Brailsford explains. So, when Brailsford and Silverman were assigning some of their colleagues tasks for the wedding, the “So What” singer was a little salty when she thought she wasn’t included.

“We asked our girlfriend, Tracy, to do a speech and then I had asked other people on the tour, and we were just talking to them about details, but I knew we were going to ask her to be our officiant,” he tells PEOPLE.

“Then she actually started getting [a little jealous]. She was like, ‘Why are you only talking to Tracy about the wedding? I want a job,” Brailsford reveals, saying the singer even volunteered to plan their welcome tennis tournament just so she could be a part of the festivities. “It became a thing, and Pink was like, ‘Wait, hello? I thought we were closer.’ ”

They held off, though, because they wanted to find an appropriate moment to ask her.

“I came to Atlanta for Khasan’s 40th birthday, and she was hosting a little thing, and she was like, ‘Why don’t you guys come over?’ ” Silverman explains. “We jumped on it, grabbed a bottle of wine and we went over with a card and then we just properly proposed to her to be our officiant.”

The moment was as special as expected. “We were all screaming like little girls,” he continues. “And the next day, we were on tour, and she announced it to everyone like, ‘You guys, I have a job at Khasan’s wedding. He’s trusting me to do this.’ “

Unlike most, Brailsford and Silverman were relatively hands-off when it came to planning their wedding. Their wedding planner, Maria Soriano Gimeno, is a trusted pro whom the couple says they confidently put their blind trust in.

When it came to music, though, a few must-haves were on their list. Betty Who, a friend of theirs, sang “Marry Me,” for their first dance. It’s a tune that holds a lot of significance as Silverman played it when he proposed all those years back.

They also included orchestral versions of “Birds of a Feather,” “Dangerously in Love,” and “California Love,” to usher in those who were participating in the wedding.

As far as getting guests to the dance floor, the newlyweds hired friends DJ Dawson and Droco to man the tunes.

“We just wanted good music, good drinks, and for everyone to have a great time, but for it to feel like elegant, elevated, but fun,” describes Silverman.

The same philosophy applied to their cake. Made by the Four Seasons, it was simply vanilla-vanilla, a fool-proof flavor that is guaranteed to be enjoyed by everyone. “I just want classic done well,” Brailsford tells PEOPLE.

The big weekend ended with what they dubbed a “Recovery Beach Club” on Sunday, where guests got to lounge and enjoy some good food at the hotel.

With the wedding now officially behind them, Brailsford and Silverman are looking to take on several new projects as newlyweds, including an apartment renovation.

They are also looking to experiment with bicoastal living.

“One thing we talked about, and maybe we did a few years ago, is that we split time between coasts, which we both really liked. So in 2023, we were in L.A. for four or five months together. Just to see if there’s some way that we can do that bi-coastal living,” Silverman says. “So, that’s also possible.”

Lastly, Brailsford says he can’t wait to see how marriage evolves their long-standing relationship.

“And to married life. I don’t know how it’s going to feel. I know it’ll feel different. It already feels different. So it’s really interesting to think, ‘Okay, what am I going to feel like after Saturday?’ Everyone tells me there’s a huge shift. Even though you may not think it, but you feel a different closeness, you feel a different shift. So I’m excited to see what that manifests itself in, in our life.”
