Daniel Dae Kim gives all the credit to his wife for their 30-year marriage.
The actor chatted with PEOPLE at the New York premiere for his new Prime Video series, Butterfly, on Tuesday, Aug. 6. There, the Hawaii Five-0 star, 57, spoke about his 30-year marriage to Mia, 60, and shed some light on the secret to their long-lasting relationship.
“I have a very patient wife,” he said through his bout of laughter. “That’s the secret.”
Kim also spoke about working with their son, Zander, 29, at his production company, 3AD, which he founded in 2013. “I love working with my son,” Kim said. “I think it’s a nice way for us to stay in touch because it’s not always easy when people have busy lives.”
“My family is close and so it’s nice that we have one more point of connection,” he added. Kim also shares son Jackson, 22, with wife Mia.
He previously told E! News at the TIME100 Gala that “[My sons] shape my values.”
“They keep me humble no matter what’s happening, and they keep me in check no matter how much success I might be having.” Adding, “It’s great to have that perspective and North Star.”
He also told the outlet that Mia’s patience has served him well throughout his career. “My wife—being patient as I traipse around the world, going from job to job—she’s kept our family stable. She’s been fantastic.”
The couple married on June 12, 1993, and then welcomed their first son, Zander, three years later in 1996, and their second child, Jackson, in 2002.
Throughout the years, Kim has sparingly posted photos of his family, and in 2023, he celebrated his wife and his mother Jung Kim for Mother’s Day. “Happy Mother’s Day to my favorite moms, and to all of yours!❤️,” he captioned his Instagram photo of the two women.
He also celebrates his sons, and in May 2024, the Lost alum shared a sweet photo with Jackson as he celebrated his college graduation. Posing in Washington Square Park, the two debuted matching fake New York University tattoos while smiling together.
“Two proud @nyuniversity grads, but an even prouder dad,” Kim wrote in his caption. “Congratulations to our @jacksontkim and all the students graduating around the world. Here’s to the #ClassOf2024!💜🤍❤️.”
