Daniel Dae Kim is close to his family.
While speaking to PEOPLE at the New York premiere for his new Prime Video series on Tuesday, August 6, the Butterfly actor, 57, revealed what it’s truly like working with his son Zander, 27, at the same production company.
“I love working with my son,” Kim says, referring to 3AD, which was founded in 2013. “I think it’s a nice way for us to stay in touch because it’s not always easy when people have busy lives. My family is close and so it’s nice that we have one more point of connection.”
In addition to Zander, Kim is also a father to son Jackson, 22. The Hawaii Five-0 alum shares both of his children with wife Mia Kim.
Daniel and Jackson hit the Butterfly red carpet together on Tuesday, wearing similar black suits. While Daniel paired his with a black shirt, his son brighten up his look with a white one.
Daniel is always learning new things from his two sons. In March 2024, The Good Doctor producer appeared on an episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show and shared that while the internet has dubbed him a “zaddy,” he only found out what the word means from his kids.
“The first time I saw that, I thought it must be a typo. I don’t know why there’s a ‘z’ in front of there… I heard it on the internet, that was the first time,” he said. “And then my kids kind of told me, ‘Oh, it kind of means this and that,’ and I was like, ‘Oh.’ ”

It’s also no secret that Daniel is a proud dad. On May 15, the Lost alum shared a sweet photo with Jackson as he celebrated his college graduation. Posing in Washington Square Park, the two debuted matching fake New York University tattoos while smiling together.
“Two proud @nyuniversity grads, but an even prouder dad,” Kim wrote in his caption. “Congratulations to our @jacksontkim and all the students graduating around the world. Here’s to the #ClassOf2024!💜🤍❤️.”
Butterfly premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 13 exclusively on Prime Video.
