Dave Grohl turned his FireAid concert Nirvana reunion into a family affair.
Grohl, 56, and his fellow surviving Nirvana members, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, were joined by several celebrity guests during their set at the Thursday, January 30, benefit concert. Filling in for the late Kurt Cobain on vocals were St. Vincent, Kim Gordon and Joan Jett for performances of “Breed,” “School” and “Territorial Pissings.” For their final song, Grohl’s eldest daughter, Violet, 18, took the mic to sing “All Apologies.”
“Violet Grohl, come on down,” Novoselic, 59, said while welcoming Violet on stage. “Hi, L.A.,” Violet, who was dressed in a long-sleeved black mini dress, told the audience before glancing back at her father on the drums.
Violet showed off her vocal chops by singing the 1993 track off Nirvana’s album In Utero, with Grohl joining her on backup vocals. After finishing the song, an emotional Grohl beamed with pride at his daughter and his bandmates.

Grohl shares his Violet, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, with his wife, Jordyn Blum. Violet is no stranger to performing with her dad, as she previously joined him and the Foo Fighters on stage at the Glastonbury music festival in June 2023. Violet also performed a cover of Adele’s “When We Were Young” with Grohl on guitar at an Oakland, California, benefit concert in May 2018.
Grohl, Violet and Nirvana were among many musical acts who performed at Thursday’s FireAid show, which helped raise money for those affected by the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires, which began earlier this month. The father-daughter performance also comes three months after Grohl revealed he had welcomed his fourth child with another woman. “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” he shared in a September 2024 Instagram post. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

He added: “We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.” In the wake of the news, Violet and Harper deactivated their social media accounts. Violet’s Instagram has since been made public, while Harper’s remains private. Grohl, meanwhile, has not posted on Instagram since his baby announcement.
Jordyn was spotted without her wedding ring shortly after news of the cheating scandal broke. However, she and Grohl reportedly spent the holidays together. “They are all spending Christmas as a family,” a source told People in December 2024. (Us Weekly reached out to Grohl’s rep for comment at the time.”
Violet wished her Instagram followers a “merry christmas x” on Christmas Day by sharing a blurry video of a building lit up in holiday colors.
