David Duchovny’s Family Guide: Wife Monique Pendleberry, Ex Tea Leoni and His 2 Kids

David Duchovny is once again a married man!

Us Weekly confirmed on Wednesday, May 21, that the X-Files icon, 64, has tied the knot with longtime girlfriend, Monique Pendleberry, 31.

The couple sparked marriage rumors after they were spotted walking around Malibu a day earlier wearing what appeared to be wedding bands.

Duchovny began dating Pendleberry in 2017 and they’ve made the rare public appearance together since then, including the red carpet premiere of Duchovny’s movie You People in 2023.

Before meeting Pendleberry, the actor was married to actress Téa Leoni, with whom he shares two adult children, including actress West Duchovny.

Us Weekly confirmed on Wednesday, May 21, that Duchovny and Pendleberry had tied the knot.

The couple has largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight since they began seeing one another in 2017. At the time, it was reported that Pendleberry worked at the SunLife Organics juice bar in Malibu, which is owned by Duchovny’s friend, Khalil Rafati.

Over the years, Duchovny has been seen with his longtime love in a few rare public appearances together. In January 2024, they took in a Los Angeles Lakers game and were spotted together in New York City again that September. In 2023, Pendleberry supported Duchovny at the red carpet premiere of his Netflix film You People.

Téa Leoni

The X-Files star was previously married to actress Téa Leoni between 1997 and 2014.

The couple was initially introduced by their mutual agent, Risa Shapiro. “As an agent, you put things together all the time,” Shapiro told The Los Angeles Times in 1997. “They are both extremely good-looking people, they are both extremely well-educated, they went to private school in Manhattan, they went to Ivy League schools, and they are both about to have great movie careers. He wasn’t dating anyone, she wasn’t dating anyone…”

While Leoni initially turned down Shapiro’s matchmaking efforts, she and Duchovny eventually connected.

“She’s so smart and funny, and she’s so loyal. She’s honest and she’s kind,” Duchovny told the L.A. Times in October 1997. “The most gentle person I’ve ever met. And she really seemed to care about me. Which shocked me. I thought, ‘I don’t want to [mess] this up.’”

After a whirlwind romance, Duchovny asked Leoni to marry him.

“I ended up asking her every day until we got married. It was like our little thing. I still ask her. She’ll say, ‘Ask me,’ and I’ll ask her. She never said no,” he recalled at the time.

After a decade of marriage and two children together, Duchovny entered rehabilitation for sex addiction in the summer of 2008. In October that year, the couple confirmed they had separated.

“In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months,” they said in a statement to People at the time. “The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children.”

Duchovny and Leoni reunited in 2009, but by the summer of 2011, they had separated again. The couple filed for divorce in 2014.

“Listen, David gave me the two greatest gifts on the planet; I don’t know how I could ever hate him. We’ve always loved each other, and we adore these kids,” Leoni told Parade magazine in September 2014.

“I’m not playing stupid—I understand feelings can get hurt and things can get icky. We’ve had our moments like that. But these kids are too important, and he feels the same way. I know it,” the Madam Secretary star said.

“He’s a good guy,” she added.

Leoni has been linked to her Madam Secretary costar Tim Daly since 2014.

West Duchovny

Duchovny and Leoni welcomed their first child together, daughter Madelaine West Duchovny, in April 2009.

Going by the stage name West Duchovny, the 26-year-old has followed in her famous parents’ acting footsteps.

In an August 2023 interview with WWD, West said she initially didn’t have any desire to go into acting and had gotten into college to study in a pre-med program. But before going off to college, she starred in a high school play and was bitten by the acting bug.

“And it was just like, ‘Oh, no.’ I had never felt that way about anything. I never loved anything I had tried so effortlessly,” she told WWD. “I felt like I had been pushing myself to love school and love academics. But [acting] felt like the first thing that I wanted to commit to really getting to know and doing.”

West said her parents were initially reluctant about her going into the entertainment world.

“When they saw the play, they were complimentary, but like, they’re my parents. But they were surprised just because it came out of nowhere,” she said. “My dad had less strong feelings about it than my mom. My mom definitely was trepidatious. She grew up in the industry; that was very difficult for women. That we are now talking about more and changing, slowly but surely. And you know, I’m her daughter, and she was scared for me to enter that world.”

Now, however, her parents are her biggest supporters in her career.

“I think it just took them a little bit to take me seriously,” she told WWD. “Because it felt so random. But [I told them], ‘No, guys, this is what I need to do.’”

West’s roles include Syfy’s The Magicians, Netflix’s Painkiller and Hulu’s Saint X.

Kyd Miller Duchovny

Duchovny and Leoni’s only son, Kyd, was born in June 2002.

Kyd, 22, is expected to graduate from Pitzer College, a liberal arts and science school in Claremont, California, this year.

Unlike his sister, Kyd remains largely out of the spotlight, though he did appear in an Instagram jam session with his famous dad in July 2017. In the clip, father and son can be seen playing the guitar. Duchovny captioned the video by highlighting the importance of music education.

“My son is a naturally gifted, funny guy,” Duchovny described Kyd in a June 2022 interview with Closer. “He’s a storyteller in that way, but has shown no interest in acting.”

In June 2024, the Californication actor lamented that he spent large amounts of time away from home working on various projects while his kids were growing up.

“I’ll always feel inadequate [as a parent],” the actor told People. “Maybe I was a good parent, because my kids are great people, and they probably want to think of me as a good parent, too. They don’t want to think of me as a failure. I’m sure I’ve done bad things, I’m sure I’ve made mistakes, but we all have. So, I try and give myself more of a break.”

“I was certainly working a lot when my kids were young,” Duchovny added. “That’s something I might have changed, but then again, it’s also cool to model a person who’s engaged with their life for a kid. It might not be the best thing to just devote your entire existence to your kid either, so it could go either way.”

He continued, “I don’t have access to the other road that could have been traveled. I just have the one that I did travel, so certainly not a perfect parent, but I love my kids. I love my kids so, so much.”
