Dax Shepard Cries After Dove Cameron’s Tattoo Reminds Him of His Daughters

Dax Shepard showed off his sensitive side while talking with actress and singer Dove Cameron on his podcast, “Armchair Expert.”

During their lengthy conversation, Shepard noted that one of Cameron’s many tattoos made him emotional.

“You did make me cry today, though,” Shepard said. “Because I was seeing the tattoo that you got.”

The tattoo is featured on the back of Cameron’s right hand and reads, “We’ll be friends forever.” As Shepard explained, it’s a phrase he often says to his two daughters.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have historically been very vocal about their ups and downs as a couple — and that openness extends to their parenting skills. Bell and Shepard welcomed daughter Lincoln in March 2013, seven months before they tied the knot at Beverly Hills courthouse. The couple went on to welcome daughter Delta […]

“I have little girls,” Shepard continued as he began to cry again. “I say that same thing to them all the time. “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I can’t. … If they had to tattoo that on them at some point because something went sideways, it was just heartbreaking.”

Shepard and Kristen Bell share daughters Lincoln, 12 and Delta, 10.

“I say it to them, like, almost every day on the way to school. Like, ‘You know, we’re gonna be best friends for the rest of your life, the rest of my life.’”

Listening to Shepard, Cameron, whose father died by suicide in October 2011 when she was just 15 years old, got emotional as well.

“Well, and that’s what it should be, right?” Cameron said. “I’m so moved to hear you say that about your girls because I truly was best friends with my dad. … He really like he tried his best, you know.”

“There’s probably equally sweet relationships but I find it hard to believe there are,” Shepard replied of father-daughter relationships. “It’s inconceivable that anything can be sweeter.”

Shepard said a few times that he is happy he had daughters and not sons.

“They’re the best thing we’ve got, daughters,” Shepard recalled telling his wife while watching Lincoln singing with her fellow choir members. “Of all the bells and whistles, this is it right here.”
