Deion Sanders Reacts to Sons Joining NFL After 2025 Draft Drama: ‘God Is Good’

Deion Sanders is celebrating sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders both joining the NFL after a disappointing 2025 draft showing.

“God is Good!” Deion, 57, wrote via X on Saturday, April 26.

Shedeur, 23, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, April 26, in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Hours later, Shilo, 25 — who was not picked up by a team in the draft — signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.

“Both of y’all, you’re resilient,” Deion told his two sons during a Twitch livestream on Saturday, per USA Today. “[The draft] tested the whole family. I’m thankful. Tampa’s a wonderful spot.”

Before Shedeur was drafted, the family weighed in on the surprise that he was not chosen in the first round as previously predicted.

“My bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise & he chose the weak things of the world that he may put to shame the strong!” Deion wrote via X on Friday, April 25. “Please know God ain’t done & God is just really getting started. Enjoy this lesson & stop stressing. #CoachPrime”

Shedeur, for his part, acknowledged that the family “didn’t expect this” in a post from his family’s home in Texas, where they watched the draft rather than attend in-person in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

“But I feel like with God, anything’s possible — everything’s possible. I don’t feel like this happened for no reason,” he added in a social media video earlier this week. “All this is of course fuel to the fire. Under no circumstance — we all know this shouldn’t have happened. But we understand, we’re on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We’re going to be happy regardless.”

Deion Sanders now has two sons in the NFL, joining the growing ranks of brothers in the league. Following Shedeur’s selection by the Browns, Deion’s past social media post — where he criticized the NFL team — has circulated the internet. In the upload, Deion referenced 2004’s No. 1 NFL draft pick, Eli Manning, who famously was selected by the San Diego Chargers but refused to play for the team. He was then sent to the New York Giants.

“I love what the Browns have done this offseason, but if I’m a young QB, ain’t no way I’m going to Cleveland. I would pull a ELI MANNING if possible,” Deion wrote via X in 2018, adding the hashtag #Truth.

Deion, for his part, played in the NFL for 14 seasons on the Atlanta Falcons, the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Commanders and the Baltimore Ravens. In 2011, he was inducted into the College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
