Denise Richards is sharing how she and husband Aaron Phypers keep the spark alive in their marriage.
The actress and reality star, 54, told Interview magazine that the pair make sure to do one specific thing at least once every month to stay connected — and she urges other couples to do the same.
“My advice, especially to couples who just had a child, is to do a staycation at least one night a month, even if you don’t have kids,” Richards said. “Just so you can have your romance, no distractions, and just reconnect as a couple.”
“We have made a point of doing that one night a month at least, just to have that time for ourselves and not feel guilty about it,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum also shared the other simple secret that makes her six-year marriage with Phypers, 52, work: “He’s my best friend and we don’t try to change each other,” she told Interview.
The couple are currently taking fans behind the scenes of their family life in the Bravo series Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. The show follows Richards as she juggles her Hollywood career, her marriage to Phypers and motherhood. She shares daughters Sami, 21, and Lola, 19, with ex-husband Charlie Sheen and welcomed daughter Eloise, 13, via adoption.
In the show’s premiere episode, Richards declared that she has no plans to get divorced again following her public split from Sheen, 59.
“Even if we hate each other, I’m not gonna f—— get divorced,” she said during a confessional, as Phypers added, “No, we’ll just have different homes or something. But we’re not gonna hate each other.”

Richards and Phypers tied the knot in an intimate wedding in Malibu, Calif., just two days after getting engaged in September 2018.
Shortly after the spontaneous nuptials, Richards opened up to PEOPLE about the process of pulling together the wedding in under 48 hours and the significance of their marriage date.
“[Aaron] really wanted to marry on Sept. 8 because eight means infinity,” the Love Actually star explained. “We called [celebrity wedding planner] Mindy Weiss and she did it in less than 48 hours, and it was beautiful.”
She added to Entertainment Tonight, “It was very close family and friends, and everyone said that it looked like it had been planned for months.”
“[We] wanted to make it about us, and the girls, and Aaron and I, and our love,” she said.
