Devon Sawa is returning to his roots.
The actor became a teen heartthrob in the 1990s and 2000s after appearing in Casper (1995), and is now going back to that persona for a new Vera Bradley advertising campaign.
On Thursday, Aug. 14, the actor, 46, posted an Instagram photo channeling his ‘90s style, including his signature heartthrob haircut. The photo, which was formatted to look like a folded poster from a teen magazine, included Sawa sporting a white T-shirt and a flannel wrapped around his hips with a pair of light-wash denim jeans.
“Me and the hair? We’re back together… LINK IN MY BIO!!” he simply captioned the photo, leaving fans curious.
The link in Sawa’s Instagram bio directs users to the Vera Bradley website. And like Sawa’s post, it is modeled after ’90s website designs. The site then presents photos and a teaser trailer for its forthcoming advertisement, “Most Perfect Couple,” which is set to premiere on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
The “Most Perfect Couple” trailer began with Sawa in the aforementioned outfit with a brunette woman also rocking classic ‘90s trends — from butterfly clips to a black tattoo choker and a graphic baseball T-shirt.
“This fall, Vera Bradley made one woman’s Y2K Devon Sawa fan-fiction a reality,” a voiceover is heard saying.
The Vera Bradley site (a redirect from DevonSawaIsSoBack.com) also informed customers that “Most Perfect Couple” is an adaptation of writer Kristen Mulrooney’s fan fiction about the actor.
“In 2002, at age 15, a young, Vera Bradley-clad Kristen Mulrooney wrote fanfiction about falling in love with Y2K heartthrob Devon Sawa. Twenty-three years later, we turned her story into a film starring a now 40-year-old Kristen and 46-year-old Devon as their teenage selves. Dreams really do come true.”
While fans remain unsure what the accessory company will be releasing, many are excited to see Sawa embrace his ‘90s look.
One Instagram user wrote, “Oh my goodness 😂 What is this for? I’m not sure if a 40 yo is allowed posters on her wall any more!” Many more commented that they wanted the photo as a poster in their bedrooms, with one user writing, “Will my husband allow a poster above the bed? Is the question im asking….😂.”
Another added, “I just tried to like this 3 times like I hadn’t already done it. It’s perfection. 😍.”
“10-Year-Old me just yelled and shrieked and passed out OMG!!! 😭😍😲,” one user wrote. Another commented on Sawa’s hairstyle, “omg omg omg omg!! 😍😍😍😍😍 THIS haircut still has me in a chokehold.”
