It’s Percy’s party, and all potential adopters are invited.
On Jan. 11, PAWS Humane Society, Inc. in Wilmington, Ohio, announced that it is hosting a birthday party for Percy, an American Staffordshire terrier who has been in the shelter’s care for 4 years.
In the Facebook invite for the dog’s birthday bash on Jan. 24, PAWS notes that on Jan. 23, Percy will have officially spent 1,500 days at the shelter waiting for a home.
“You are invited to Percy’s Birthday PAW-ty. Please join us and meet Percy as we celebrate him on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the PAWS shelter, 5312 N. U.S. Highway 68, Wilmington. RSVP please,” PAWS wrote alongside the invite.
The animal rescue organization told WDTN that Percy is estimated to be about 8 years old, meaning he has spent half his life in the shelter.
“Despite being loving, loyal, and full of personality, Percy continues to be overlooked,” PAWS shared with the outlet. “To bring attention to his long wait — and to highlight the many long-term shelter dogs like him — PAWS Humane Society is hosting a special event called ‘Paw-ty for Percy’.”
According to Percy’s adoption profile, he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations, and house-trained. He is not compatible with homes that already have other dogs or cats, but he would thrive in a family ready to love him.
“Meet Percy, an adult dog with a big heart and lots of love to give! Percy may not get along with other dogs, but he loves people and is especially friendly once he gets to know you,” PAWS wrote in the dog’s profile.
Over his years at the shelter, Percy has become a favorite among PAWS’s volunteers, who call him “the bestest boy.” Despite hundreds of days of being overlooked by potential adopters, Percy still has a sunny, optimistic personality. He is calm on a leash and during car rides.

PAWS added that the dog’s likes include basking in the sun, receiving belly rubs, treats and toys.
“We’re sure that Percy will be a devoted companion, and we’re hoping to find him a forever home where he can really shine,” PAWS shared, adding that Percy’s adoption fee is covered.
