Grab your Vespa helmet and brush up on your Italian — we’re just months away from a new season of Emily in Paris.

Netflix’s hit series, led by Lily Collins, was officially renewed for a fifth season in September 2024 — just days after season 4, part 2 dropped and revealed that Emily Cooper’s journey is heading in an exciting new direction.

Season 5 of Emily in Paris will see the stylish main character swapping croissants for cappuccinos as she trades Paris for Rome, all while stepping into her chic new role as head of Agence Grateau’s satellite office in the Eternal City.

“This season is a tale of two cities. Rome and Paris,” creator Darren Star told Tudum in August 2025. “Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level.”

Production for season 5, which is slated to premiere on Dec. 18, has already begun. However, tragedy struck the Emily in Paris set on Aug. 21 when assistant director Diego Borella, 47, reportedly died of a heart attack.

Filming has since resumed. Here’s everything to know about season 5 of Emily in Paris, from plot details to new cast members.

Warning: Emily in Paris season 4 spoilers ahead!

How did season 4 of Emily in Paris end?

By the end of season 4, Emily finds herself swept up in a whirlwind romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) — the charming heir to Italian luxury cashmere house Umberto Muratori.

Their story begins on the slopes of Megève, France, where Emily finds herself stranded by Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). Marcello steps in to guide her safely down the mountain, though their connection is quickly cut short when Emily storms off to confront Gabriel and end their relationship.

Not long after, Emily and Marcello’s paths cross again, prompting him to invite her to Rome — an offer she can’t resist.

Emily’s Roman holiday, however, takes a complicated turn when Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) shows up unannounced, hoping to land the Muratori family as a client. Sylvie’s pushy tactics leave Marcello questioning whether Emily came to Rome for him or as part of a work agenda.

Emily eventually convinces Marcello that her feelings are sincere by telling him, “I don’t want to work with you, Marcello, I want to be with you.”

At the conclusion of the season, Emily learns she’ll be staying in Rome to lead Agence Grateau’s new office. The final scene shows Emily and Marcello riding off together on a Vespa through the streets of the Eternal City.

What will season 5 of Emily in Paris be about?

According to the official synopsis, season 5 will find Emily settling into her new role as the head of Agence Grateau’s Rome office.

As she navigates the Eternal City, Emily faces both romantic and professional turbulence. A work proposal goes awry, triggering heartbreak and career upheaval. In an effort to regain her footing, she reconnects with her beloved French lifestyle — but when a major secret surfaces, it threatens one of her closest relationships.

Star told Tudum in August 2025 that his decision to send Emily to Italy was an effort to “stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places,” and prove “the show has the ability to have a bigger footprint.”

Collins also spoke to Tudum, sharing that she’s excited to explore Emily’s romance with Marcello.

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” she said. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”
